The 400 showed up a day early! w00t!

Here's the little guy mounted on the 20D:

It's really tiny. Those shots are all with the hood extended. It's somewhat long, but it's super thin (like Joe).

Here are some shots from the lens:

I went down to Greenwaters Park to try to get some shots of an Osprey family that lives there, but I didn't see anything, so I resorted to boring pictures.

The lens came with a cheap Hoya UV filter on it. It degrades the fuck out of the sharpness and bokeh. I'm not keeping it on the lens anymore.

The lens hunts like crazy, the AF is super fast, but the 20D's focusing just can't "find" anything most of the time. The subject has to be very contrasty for the lens to snap into focus on the first try. This is exactly why I will never buy a lens slower than f/2.8. Even though the lens is small and light, it's still 400mm and it's going to take me some practice to handhold this thing. Luckily it was bright out and I was getting super fast shutters, so I didn't have ot worry about any wobble. The next two weekends I'm hoping to make it to the coast to get some surf shots... I'll probably have to mount the UV back on it though, damn it.

So far, after only a few frames, it's fun as shit!

Oh, and I have to give a huge kudos to www.rentglass.com , the shipping was very fast, the packing was very good and very thought out. I have everything I need (inculding stickers!) to ship the lens back safely. If only they carried the big guns they would be perfect. But the shipping and insurance costs makes it understandable that they don't offer them.
