*with the voice of a thousand cartoon Peanuts characters* CHRISTMASTIME BLAH BLAHBLAHBLAH...

Merry Christmas all!
I'm just tooling around until the fam packs in. It will actually be a relatively small gathering this year...sadly, my step-cousins/brothers-in-arms/wish-they-were-in-my-arms/um...what? will be noticeably absent. That means it's just ( Read more... )

I didn't know that you guys were St. Martin's folk! It's beautiful...and the choir!!! I didn't care for the sermon, but if I were to choose a Catholic church in Louisville to attend, that would be it (if only for the choir).

Interestingly, we usually go to St. Joe's midnight mass on Christmas...that's where the dying Grover Franciscan always spoke before the brothers moved out! Man, their homilies are short and sweet at midnight, though...you guys might consider it next year. Personally, I don't care for their building...it's borderline gaudy! Their organ sounds amazing, though.

St. Bridid is a very beautiful one (that was our midnight mass two years back). Their choir is also very good, but they can't hold a candle to St. Martin's. I don't remember the homily. Eh. Details...

complete with the priest's Proclamation of the Birth of Christ at the beginning of the mass....SUNG...VERY POORLY.
You at least expect that sort of thing. My first time at a Catholic service was the wedding of a friend of mine, and I think I actually did burst out laughing.

You poor thing! Don't you feel awful when stuff like that happens? Catholic mass is quite an experience, eh? My favorite oddity is the Nicene Creed. Being raised Catholic, I've been able to recite it as far back as I can remember. Even at a young age, I found it funny and scary that people would recite it like bloody robots. Webelieveinonegodthefatherthealmightymakerofheavenandearthofallthigsseenandunseen.... Colbert rattled it off on his show one time, and I laughed at my own inclination to start saying it along with him! That is some seriously scary shit!
