In fairness, the current Wii release schedule is kind of bleak. I hope that changes at E3, but for now... well, things just seem empty, with all the focus going into the 3DS, and mostly licensed stuff going to the Wii.
It's a knee-jerk reaction, but I can see why people might be paranoid. Especially if the rumored price cut does happen.
Not saying it's right, but I can see why people might feel that way. Just look at this year's lineup so far versus last year's.
The thing there (and I know I will catch some flack for this) is Nintendo's recent releases have been degrading momentum already. No one has been picking up Wiis for games like Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Metroid Other M. The last game to really drive Wii sales was New Super Mario Bros. Wii. I don't have very much faith in Skyward Sword either since it still looks modeled after the previous console Zeldas, which have been in steady decline.
But again, this is not just a reaction to the now. People have really been saying this since the Wii's release, or even before that. The things this article says about the Wii (and the hope invested in a Wii HD) are more or less the same as they were in 2006.
You know, I don't get where people think that with the Wii, that Nintendo "changed" or that they're "only targeting casuals."
In my opinion, Nintendo's business stance has never changed. They've always been trying to make things that are FUN (be it playing cards, toys, or video games). They've always been trying different things (look at their wide history of wacky accessories, successes and failures).
Nintendo has never targeted specifically kids or "casuals", despite what the jaded gaming "journalists" may think. Their target has always been EVERYONE. Their big titles like Mario, Zelda, and Pokémon aren't targeted towards kids, despite their kid-friendly atmosphere, just that Nintendo's philosophy is that they haven't found it necessary to make everything bleed, drop the F bomb every few seconds, or have women running around naked. It's not like those things make a game better. If you feel "insecure" about playing an E-rated game, then you really aren't as "mature" as you think you are
