You shall all think that I am insane for what I am about to say. In my head it sounds poetic, perhaps it is just inane. If you know me, you know that I love to read. I am currently rereading what is probably my favorite book of all time, East of Eden by John Steinbeck. For some reason, I have been thinking about the way I read alot lately. I ( Read more... )

Absolutely. In that way good books are like old friends. It is never boring going back and visiting with old friends, at least the truly good ones. And because you can never know everything about a person (or a book), every time you go back you will usually learn something new about them. Or they may simply remind you about someting of yourself or theirself that you had forgotten. Quite often, that information will be divulged to you because it is relevant to your current state of being and will help you see your situation in a new light. Even if no new revelatory information is disclosed, you will still have a lovely time reminscing with your old friend.

1- I would never laugh at you for something as cool and real and insigthful as that
2- I'm guessing the parts with Cathy are the fast parts.. and the parts with Lee and the boys at the end are the slow parts
3- A guy was describing music to me like sugar. He said that some music is like candy, sweet, with instant gratification, unsubstantial, and there's definitely a limit of how much you can have before you get tired of it, and that other music was like pasta. The same molecular structure, but it's richer and longer, more complex, more substantial, more fulfilling, and you could eat pasta every day...unless you were on Atkins.. but in that case you couldn't have either. (Ok. I added the Atkins part.) Anyway-- I REALLY like that.. and you're right about East of Eden.. it's intense. You're not stupid.. don't be embarassed about being FREAKIN BRILLIANT.

Um, you already knew how much I loved you, but now I love you THAT MUCH MORE for knowing East of Eden. Most anything with Lee and Sam is either slow or REALLY fast because its so exciting, Charles' letters are fast, most Cathy stuff is fast, the boys usually slow. I'm glad that you understood too that slow here wasn't a negative
