So many funny moments tonight! I laughed so much at the Oxford/Cambridge discussion, and Charlie and Will at the beginning. And I never knew that Reese could be so entertaining! Also, I need much, much more of Elliot next season, because he's been golden the few times we've seen him.
The Will/Mac scenes weren't what I was expecting at all, I need to go back and rewatch those...
I didn't expect these Will/Mac scenes either. I didn't think they'd willingly talk about their relationship. And especially not at a time like this. I love that Will remarked not that she cheated on him but that she lied to him. The lying part is more important to him.
But I wasn't surprised when she said that she destroyed his professional life just like she did with his personal one before. I expected her to make that parallel.
I knew the parallels were there, and I sort of expected them, but not the attitude Mac had about it, sort of petulantly "Why don't you forgive me yet?".
First: I can't believe that Will fired Mac. I know that she asked him to do it, but I thought that he never would. What went on in his head when he said those words? But I have to say that I love the last look they shared, even though they couldn't see each other. And I love that they talked about their past relationship even in these circumstances. It was great to finally hear them talk about it
( ... )
The going theory about Will firing Mac is that she said the things she did in order to goad him into doing it. That makes more sense to me than anything else so far. I'm guessing he's going to regret it in the finale, but won't be able to find her to take it back or something.
Oh yes, she definitely said that to provoke him. For her, him firing her is the only way she can protect him. That's the only thing in her mind right now, I'm sure. And I think he's already regretting it in the last scene. But yes, I hope something will happen in the finale.
I think he fired Mac to prove that he still could be selfless toward her and that he never intended things between them to get to the point that they have. It seemed like the whole last scene between Will and Mac was about:
(1) Will trying to say that the reason he couldn't forgive her is that she changed who he was when she broke his heart. He used to be a good guy, but he's become someone that hurts people. He hates himself and he feels like she made him that way.
(2) Will not realizing that she thinks he cares about himself and his reputation more than her or the show. I think he's always assumed that either she knew he still loves her or that she has enough faith in him to know that he cares more about the show and her than he does himself.
(3) Will realizing that the way she thinks about him now makes it miserable/painful for her to be around him. I also think he (incorrectly) assumes that she couldn't love him anymore.
