We're a small restaurant, but insanely popular, so the middle of the week can have as many double bookings as any weekend night, despite having only one or two waitstaff as opposed to three on a weekend. The other night was one of these nights, and it was non-stop moving. Seating people, taking orders, serving out food, dealing out drinks, running payments, answering the phone for bookings and takeaways. Like a Christmas rush at a shopping centre. Being a Wednesday, there was only myself as the waitstaff, with a kitchenhand helping out.
Anyway, towards the end of the night one of the customers called me over only to say:
"You're really well suited for this job. I've been watching you all night, running around, doing everything and keeping it all running under control, and still smiling and laughing and being, quite frankly, extraordinary with your customers. I just wanted to say thank you."
