Stroking her bird, she didn't turn around to face them just yet. "Nobody said anything about guests. I would have rolled out the red carpet." Feeding the bird a treat then looking over her shoulder, "Of course you don't want to know why it's red."
"Caught them snooping around the market boss. They wanted to know all about Theo this and Theo that." Sam looked down on the two seated at the couch, while she gave him a smirk.
Then the little bitch had to open her mouth and lie, "We're new to the area Theo; your reputation obviously proceeds you. We're just curious, that's all." The woman tried to look at the one she'd get mercy from, while the other just looked shifty and sullen.
And she couldn't help but call her on it, "Well, you must have heard I like Bull Shit, because you're using that ol' shovel like you've been doing for a living."
Then the man thought to open his own mouth while the other ducked her head, "We're just passing though, if we've run aground of any local customs, you have our apologies." Bull fucking shit.
"Well, I will have a LOT more than that before I am though with you. Now look, Liz." Oh yes, that got the bitches attention, "That's your name right?" Sitting down on her desk and pretending to look relaxed, "Look Elizabeth hunny, I'm going to save myself some time and you some embarrassment. I'm going to tell you exactly what I know, then you're going to tell me what I don't. Now my Brain Boys were scanning the airways, and what did they come across? Damn if it's not a team from the End of the World!" Deep breath, "Now another minute and he might have found out where everyone was," with a slight dramatic pause to watch them squirm, "but it did let us know you were coming."
"You have no idea who I am, do you?" Oh, little Liz is opening her big mouth again.
"I used your name, didn't I?"
Trying to stop her as she stood, "Elizabeth, don't..." Smart boy, stop her before she makes an ass of herself.
"Why the hell not? A few months back, you and your people killed a man named Simon." Oh, is that a tear?
"Simon?" So I had to think about that for a minute. "Oh hell no, that's not ringing any bells."
"Simon was a good man... he was a decent man..." I couldn't help myself.
"Oh, wait, now it's coming back to me. Simon." Lets just try and look contrite, "Oh, I'm sorry, but girl, that man would just not cooperate."
"He didn't deserve to die!"
"Ohhh..." hand to chest, blink back fake tears, "That is just so... touching. Aren't you just moved Sam? Because I'm just about to emot." Making a high pitched noise in the back of her throat then smirking, "False alarm. Must have been something in my eye!" Oh yes, that stricken look felt good.
Mocking people just happened to be a way of life. In many ways it kept her safe from having to face herself. From having to face the way she really felt. If she let herself think about it, she'd hurt deep inside from the pain she'd cause others over the years. Yet, she'd been a warrior ever since the Death had taken over.
Even this little thing sitting in front, she couldn't let herself give a shit about. So what if she'd killed Simon? She had a town to protect; to save; to make better. And she no longer could let herself care. Now they were from the same place and this snot nosed little girl had information she needed. If she could annoy her enough.
She always found it funny now when people thought she could display emotions like she used too. It was one of the first things she had to turn off. And the look on ol’ Elizabeth’s face when she finished mocking her. Priceless.
