Maybe it's the sugar

We're in a tense and intense time at work, doing the impossible, under a crushing workload, never allowed to concentrate on anything for more than ten minutes and actually being in your office rather than running amok is a vacation. It's team bonding time ( Read more... )

this sounds great. I need to do some serious weight loss. Maybe I should take up baking as well

Baking is a passion of mine, inherited down four generations. I wouldn't take it up if you didn't truly love it.

I'd say exercise. Exercise is the most under utilized drug in America.

I thought, when I saw your last picture on Facebook, that you had gotten amazingly smaller than I remembered you as, but then thought I was wrong because garb accentuates many aspects of figure that jeans and sweaters do not, so maybe I was just confused. I almost asked and backed out, thinking that if you had not been thinning down, how rude would that have been?

Which all adds up to "I am horribly inept at complimenting you but please accept my congratulations because the changes in your appearance were enough to stop a fog-brained occasional friend cold in her tracks, making her rack her brain to try to remember what you looked like even a year ago because you were looking younger and perkier than ever she remembered, and that didn't seem possible given your smiling attitude and face." Which is cool as all-get-out.

Aw. You're not horribly inept. Actually, what I've noticed is no one knows what to say. Weight and obesity have become a topic we Don't Talk About. Ten years ago, the nicest thing you could say to someone is 'Have you lost weight?' Whether it was true or not, people preened ( ... )

I think you are right - this has become a minefield of a topic. I hope it goes without saying that your friends love you no matter what your weight (and that's both you, Theo, and "you" in general), but that it's also a matter of being healthy and anyone who loves you wants you to feel good and have a healthy body. It's what I've told Kevin a number of times over the past few months - I love him no matter what, but I'm beyond thrilled that he's measurably healthier now.

So let me wave my pompoms and cheer you on! Way to go, Theo!

70? Wow! Awesome!

I've managed to reach my original modest goal (-10%) and mostly sustain it, and am looking for the next 10% (so far about 7.5%). I haven't decided on whether to proceed with a third 10% once I stabilize. I'm just setting intermediate goals. If they aren't sustainable, they aren't realistic :)

Mainly I've done it via portion control, eliminating "white food" (which includes a host of baked goods), and having a daily walk/stationary bike session. If I knuckled down and did a more serious workout, I probably could get there without a lot of difficulty. The problem is I don't want to spend my time exercising. :)

Don't think I've become a gym bunny or crazy crossfitter. I work out 30 minutes a day 5-6 days a week, alternating weights and cardio. That's it.

That is still a lifestyle change. :) 30 minutes is pretty easy to work in if you don't have to drive somewhere to go to a gym.....

I didn't tell anyone about my weight loss until I couldn't hide it anymore. (I went to an event, so I figured I'd post a photo of myself.)
