This is crazy talk. :p. but I agree the lack of Asian characters is weird, but maybe they all stayed on the earth that was? But they still would have been represented in the alliance...interesting.
Y'know, the point of doing a recasting isn't to put your favorite actors and actresses in the roles; recasting is generally a tool to comment on the problematic race or sex issues of a work, bringing these issues up so that people are made aware of them and start talking about them.
It's a world where the US has become meshed with China to form the Alliance, where people use Chinese idioms, and yet there are no Asians in the cast. Joss did a better job incorporating people of color in Firefly than he did on his previous shows, but the lack of Asians in an Asian-fusion culture is somewhat problematic.
Right. And I completely agree. But just so you know, the point of a recasting isn't always to tackle racial casting issues. In my case, it's just for fun. So there's no need to sound as condescending as you did about it.
The only one I can concur with is Emanuelle as Inara. I could easily see her sliding into the role as a recast and fit. I love Morena, who is absolutely stunning in real life, but could see other people in the role just as easily. The other roles, I feel, were PERFECTLY cast the first time around.
I know what you mean; the show has an amazing cult following, and I've definitely come to love all the characters so much, but sometimes it's just fun to play around!
