Strange truth in fiction

This comic lampooning prejudiced suspension of disbelief actually speaks to something that bugs me sometimes. The most recent incident was talking with people who had a hard time swallowing the cell phone trick in The Dark Knight. Why did that scene seem particular hard to believe? I didn't think it was that odd, assuming you had a skilled and determined surgeon. They can stick all sorts of weird shit in you if the really want to. Like that artificial heart thing.

Unless you happened to watch the movie with a group of thoracic surgery interns?
