WE'RE ANGRY ABOUT THE ECONOMY! SO LET'S CAUSE THOUSANDS OF POUNDS OF PROPERTY DAMAGE! AND GET IN THE WAY OF PEOPLE'S NORMAL WORKING LIVES! THIS WON'T MAKE THINGS WORSE AT ALL!
Guuuuuh. Protests and especially riots so rarely seem to achieve anything positive.
As usual the truth inhabits a place between the two sides.
Don't condone the violence, and think the guys waving the tenners are idiots!!
Recession is making people angry. What held them in place was perceived wealth (house prices, credit, good paying jobs), but that was a lie. I really hope we don't break down further, because I see it as a possibility. Unforetunately when the great and good have been so irresponsible and been rewarded for it, other people fail to see why they should behave any better.
The recession is also turning it into a case of us (common man) and them (ceo/executives/bankers), right or wrong. Not a good time to be in the financial industry.

This was inevitable.

(And seriously, whatever they're doing is not only not helping the economy but worsening it ever more.)
