Work log

I'm going to start keeping logs of what I do at work, and I figured what the hell, might as well use livejournal. Let me know (IE comment) if you don't want this junk cluttering up your friends page and I'll remove you from the friends group.

I am, technicaly, Director of Information Technology, Mastros Real Estate, Inc. I do the website, maintain pretty much anything that has a wire and is in the office: phones, printers, coppiers, computers, keycards, lights... I also wire the low-voltage stuff (network (wired network only here), phones (four-line analog voice), DSL (yes, that is redundant), occasionaly high-voltage stuff (lights, outlets) (but only in the office, not in apartments). I also do other random stuff: buy ink, and occasionaly other things, like the aforementioned busniess cards. Oh, and some light other programming. (I did write the checking program we're still using for two of the three major checking accounts, but that was ages ago.)
In other words, if it doesn't have anything to do with real estate or interacting directly with other humans, I probably do it.

Before I tendered my resignation notice - I used to keep a very detailed work log. I also had my "to do" log. At the end of each week when I submitted my "status report" - I would scrape highlights off of each as "work completed" and "work scheduled".

There are a lot of good reasons to do this - not sure why you have decided to, but if you would like to know mine - let me know.

I try to do this, and fail miserably.. Reason being I'm supposed to book hours to specific projects.. And its also useful to look back and see what you did how and when..

I just end up taking cryptic notes though, and daftly, hand-written ones, which makes actually finding anything again near impossible.. (Plus I can't resort according to project/job or whatever..)

What would be nice is a program that records concious thoughts thrown at it.. Though I'm quite proud of still hand writing things in this day and age (just wish they'd scan better ,).. Oh and while I'm dreaming, I'll take that teleporter too :)

(Hmm, last time I wrote in the electronic log was this time last year, coincidence?)

Are you *still* eating lunch hon? :)
