This principle seems to apply as a general technique for problems solving in any situation -- the more specific the problem space becomes, the easier the solution is to grasp.
It's why I can't find hairclips when R says they're "in the bedroom". What she meant was "on the headboard, next to the lamp". The bedroom's not huge, but it could hold a shitload of hairclips.
