On Vox: Day 1: In which resolutions are made

Dec 13, 2007 04:59

Hi, all (for a very small value of all).
I just woke up and make some resolutions.  One of them is to write a blog entry every day (approximately) when I wake up, so here it is.  These will likely be short and boring, for the most part.
The other is that I shall brush my teath every morning, and report on my success in following that, so I don't muck ( Read more... )

I actually had just such an idea a while back -- a journaling system that allowed for different filtering sections in a single entry. I couldn't wrap my noodle around the process for trying to display the entries, but I think I kinda figured out how to store them. Sorta. >.>

Hm, I'd just do it by having an explicit tag for security, storing as text, then figuring out what sections to display to the current user at display time.

The hard bit, I suppose, is preview, so people actually notice when they make an error and say something where the wrong people can hear it.

(Er, and the assumption that the user is smart enough to use the system somewhat properly, but I don't mind that assumption, because the user is assumed to be me.)

I did nothing interesting yesterday, other then something very embarassing.

Naw, color-tagging would make previewing a snap. My issue was that I wanted to render each section as if it were a paragraph, so "partial invisibility" was making my brain turn to goo. (See, another nifty thing I'd come up with was that people could comment on specific paragraphs of what you post. Comment sections could be expanded or collapsed, so if you wanted to read the Original Article, you just don't click any pluses. Wanna see what someone said about the first paragraph? Click the plus under the first paragraph, where it says "9 comments", and they accordion out between the first and second paragraphs.)

In reality, I should have just calmly rendered one feature first, then the other, and found out how they collide. But I didn't want to Write It Wrong, and instead Never Wrote It At All. :(

Hey, how's vox working out for you? I set up my new blog at my own domain, and am publishing to LJ through that now, but there's some odd fiddly bits to it that I don't have the inclination to fix.

Well, that was my first real post to it. It's been working OK for me -- LJ getting sold again worries me, and my current circle of friends seems to be on vox. On the other hand, castaway had problems using their text editor under opera, and when she talked about it with a guy she knows who works there, he said, essnesially, known bug, WONTFIX, which is worrying above and beyond making it hard for my girlfriend to comment on by blog.

THAIGRRL! How are you doing?

OK, did my research, read the front page of your LJ, and it looks like you're doing a lot better then the last time we caught up at all -- you seem to be excited about work as well as stressed by it, and having fun every now and again, which is certianly an improvement from workworkworkwork mode...

(And I've discovered that I need to start reading blogs of my friends again.)
