Lovely. You get at some of the things I find fascinating about Giles: what it means to be a Watcher, how they feel about their Slayers, how they feel about their weapons.

Thank you so much!

How Giles feels about weapons is a fascinating subject, because they are as much a part of him as books. With both of them, he researches, he fights, he trains. We see how he strongly feels about books, so it is reasonable to claim that he feels that way with weapons.
I was going for something way more angsty, but Giles rebelled and decided that it was going to be about acceptance and understanding, because his relationship with weapons is one of the things that defines him and they can help him to rediscover his purposes.

What a wonderful character study. The scene post-Eyghon was a great metaphor for Giles trying to get rid of his guilt, and the scene with his father that immediately follows I loved for its parallels - we don't usually see such an understanding portrayal of the Senior Giles. This was the perfect method to have Giles reflect on his life. Really well done.

Thank you so much for reading and commenting!

We don't know anything about Giles's family. Many fics show Giles's father as the bad guy, some don't (like Karen Jephson' Destinies).
In Dark Age , Giles talks about his father's book with love. I went from there and I chose to see him as a guy stuck with a destiny, just like his son, and ready to help and protect his child as much as he can.
Or maybe I just wanted Giles to have a good family, because the rest of his live is already very painful.

This was so beautiful. And sad when his father saw the 7-year old Watcher, ouch. But mostly beautiful.

Thank you for your lovely comments! *blushing in front of my coffee*
And I concur for the ouch. Grocer Giles was not meant to be.

A very interesting take on Giles. I liked the pre-series bits especially, everyone has different take on what Giles was like and yours is great.

Thank you so very much !
It took me some times to be interested in pre-series fics, but now I'm a huge fan of them, especially when they are about something else than Ripper. It's fascinating to think about what made Giles so, well, gilesy.

Thank you for reading / commenting, I really appreciate it!

I will post to allthejellies, if my fic includes a B/G romantic relationship, I guess. Of course, said fic needs to be written.

I can friend you if you want, then my posts (and fics) will appear on your Friends' page.
