Torchwood: Children of Earth Day Four

Jul 09, 2009 21:57

I think the entire planet knows the spoiler by now.  It's strange that this one event has caused an eruption of reaction.  The majority of this post will not be dealing with the fandom response.   All anyone needs to do is look on Twitter, or LJ, or any other social networking site to find out how the fandom is reacting.  Whether the first ( Read more... )

I was spoiled by this as well, accidently, but still. I'd accidently found out over the interent before I watched this episode. Then I checked my phone, and my friend had sent me a text message saying "you're going to cry like a bitch when you watch day four", the irony that, just yesterday i had sent her a message saying that if anything happened to Ianto, Rhys or PC Andy, I would never forgive the writers ( ... )

Spy, I thought up a solution. And if it isn't the solution RTD thought up, then I'm dismissing tomorrow night's episode as badly written fanfic and I'm going to write my solution and call it canon. This will necessitate me never watching Torchwood again. But at least I'll feel okay about it.

I was very worried (and remain so) that on top of everything else, Gwen would lose the baby. I'm sure they're gonna go the syrupy sentimental route and have her name her son Ianto Owen or something like that. And eventually I'll forgive Torchwood and watch it again as Jack smiles and bounces baby Ianto Owen on his knee and babysits on nights when Gwen and Rhys have to watch the Rift. But for now I'm sticking to my canon and I'll share with you after tomorrow.

But that's just how I roll...

I can only assume that the point was to show that Jack was willing to sacrifice a lot of things, but when it came down to it, Ianto wasn't one of them. I say 'assume' because it's not like we've got any meaningful time to see the relationship develop.

Great post. I was completely unspoiled for Torchwood this time round, having somewhat lost interest after being deeply involved in Primeval. And I was really enjoying the series in that light. This hasn't spoiled it for me, because I was never a great fan of Ianto, I mainly like Torchwood for its stories rather than the characters. But like you, I can't see a good reason for killing him off like this, just when he was getting interesting, and when the show had successfully transferred to BBC1 ( ... )

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who noticed that the conventional hetero couple is the only one allowed to survive. I think that given TW's gay-positive press, having a loving stable relationship between two guys ( er, like Janto, maybe!) would be a very gutsy thing to do. But oh no. Let's kill the teaboy for teh angst.

Either they save Ianto, or I watch no more. That is IT for me.

I agrre with you there and I am also furios with this whole situation. I mean thet said in the Tv book fans of the show would be happy with the wat things are going but I can say we are DECIDELY NOT!!! I for one think Russle has shot himself in the foot, no more like vaporised his foot with the Children of Earth and now the fns will be on the warpath.
