Nami sometimes tended to the mikan bushes just before sunset. Something was nice about the colors of the sky blending into night and the waves lapping against the ship. Everyone else seemed to have something to do that time of evening. It was quiet, and reminded her of a village she knew a long time ago.

She clipped the leaves with care, removing the dry ones and taking the ripe fruit into a small basket. Not noticing that she was humming to herself until she was halfway done, her voice blended into the curling waves and breeze that occasionally came by to flutter the branches. When she came full circle, it became a song rather than a hum. She couldn't remember what the song was called.

She didn't notice Luffy crouched a few feet away, watching and listening, fixedly.

Sanji came with a tray of bright pastries, orange and yellow, after she finished the last note and dropped the last piece of fruit into the basket.

"Nami-swan! I didn't know you had such a beautiful voice!" He held the tray in front of her.

"Thank you, Sanji-kun." She smiled and took one of the yellow ones.

Sitting in place, she watched the last bits of color fade, sugar melting on her tongue. She heard a rustling close by and turned. Nothing was there, save a clear view of the dark sky dotted with stars. It never ceased to be brilliant no matter how long she was at sea.

Life returned to the ship when she saw lights coming on and heard laughter rising up to the deck, and left to join them. She absently left the shears behind and Luffy picked them and followed her, deciding that he'd only need to watch her a few more times until he knew enough of the song to sing along.
