What Games Should I Rent?

Jun 05, 2010 05:45

Thanks to a survey rewards program, I received three coupons, each valid for one free game rental that works out to one free rental per month for three consecutive months from Blockbuster (I figure I might as well make use of this while they're still around).

I own a Nintendo DS Lite.

I have access to a Wii.

Friends list, can you make any rental ( Read more... )

I wouldn't ever play those games for free! Bad stoney! No biscuit.

I would rent Mario Galaxy (the new one) and House of the Dead: Overkill for Wii, and I second the Professor Layton DS recommendation.

Beats me. About the only game I ever play for the Wii is Harvest Moon.

I don't know why, but I find that hilarious.

(Not that Harvest Moon isn't a good game. It really is!)

Any Phoenix Wright game is pretty spiffy and will provide you with a solid month of entertainment, after which you will never touch it again. (Perfect for a rental!)

New Super Mario Bros. Wii and New Super Mario Bros. DS are both pretty good. The former is better if you have three friends to play it with whom you are comfortable trash-talking with. Let's play Friendship Destroying Game!

Sonic Rush and Sonic Rush Adventure are, surprisingly, rock solid DS games. I know that the Sonic franchise hasn't been fantastic lately, but these two titles capture everything that was great about the franchise in the Genesis era and build on it significantly, and they are both an absolute blast to play. (Also, perfect for a 10 minute subway ride or a good hour on your couch.)

I hear immense squees about the newest iterations of Pokemon, though I doubt you'd want to keep them for only a month.

Any of the Castlevania DS games are not terrible, though I've found them to all be relatively minor variations on SotN.

I do not at all recommend ( ... )

And oh yeah, No More Heroes for Wii, of course.

I've actually already played and beaten the first one... but not the second.

Travis touchdown is funny. I've said that between the souped out moped, the nerd chic fashion sense, the sci-fi fanboyishness narrating his own boss fight, rampant horndoggishness, and insatiable battle hunger, all you needed to do was swap out the anime tchotckes for dragons and you would have the perfect representation of my unchecked Id.

So Hejji has been playing it and she's like "Jeez, this game is like a love letter to you. Travis Touchdown is SO YOU."

I was, like, "He's me with the same dorkiness level, but the badass dial turned WAY up."

To which she countered, "Nah, he fakes being a badass, too."

Clearly, the solution is to buy a lightsaber on eBay.
