"Nope. And apparently, the party's just getting started." Greaaat. More time-traveling types. Didn't he get enough of that with Booster? Apparently not, because whatever this place was, he and Babs were definitely outnumbered.

"So, uh, welcome. I guess. This place doesn't look very welcoming, does it?" Ted tends to ramble when he's nervous. He doesn't look it, but this place is putting him on edge a bit.

Not French. But, not German, either, so Archie considers this a good start. In fact, American, if he's right - even better.

"Thank you - I - Dare say, this isn't exactly what I had in mind when I was sent out - Not that you know or care, I suppose. Could you fill me in?"

"I would if I knew anything," Ted replies with a slight grin. "I got here last night, only been looking around a while."

He gives Archie a scrutinizing look and grins. "Should I take a wild guess and say you're from the 1940s, or are you just going to a costume party?"

He glances down at the current uniform and laughs, awkwardly.

"For the records, I don't normally dress like this. It's quite a story-" Then he pauses, the second comment catching up to him. "Beg your pardon? Are you meaning to tell me that this isn't 1944?"

"Kansas?" The other mother smiles. "Of course not. Although I could make it a little more like Kansas, if you like."

"Ah."

The woman takes him by surprise. His first instinct is that she's a horrible victim of the war - and his heart goes out to her.

"I ... Is everything all right here?" Note his hesitance.

"Everything is perfect here," she says, perhaps too insistently.

... Probably not a war victim then.

"Then you can enlighten me. Where is here?"

"Kansas?" Lord Henry arches an eyebrow. "Are we in America, then? How unfortunate. I don't speak the language."

"No - it's a figure of speech. A movie quote."

One look at the man tells Archie that he's probably not big on films, and, indeed, there seems to be something peculiar about him in general.

"In fact, I was just in France." He'll pass by the language issue.

"Ah, France. Such a charming, pastoral sort of place -- except, of course, for the countryside."

"I'd take the countryside over the cities right about now."
