introduction post.

Going through the rooms of Shadowcrest, it was easy to see how Zatanna could forget where some were (or weren't) and what was in them; the big, lofty mansion was even larger on the inside with its infinite amount of rooms, some in strange pocket dimensions. Her front door could lead to anywhere and everywhere, and not always where she wanted to be ( Read more... )

"Depends on if you're the 'nice lady' with creepy button eyes, or an actual nice lady," Ted answers, heading towards the new person. He stops and blinks a little when he sees who it is, then grins.

"Zatanna? Hey, welcome to the creepy mansion!" Ted pauses a minute, remembering Barbara's reaction, and steps a little closer. "Yeah, uh, don't attack me or anything, I promise I'm not a zombie or pretending to be me or anything. Ask Oracle if you don't believe me."

She smiles and waves. Ugh, a friendly face. Not the most familiar in the world, but certainly more welcome than... a 'nice' lady with creepy button eyes? "Er, nope. As far as I know my eyes are... not buttons?" Her tone notes a bit of sarcasm, but not disbelief. Button eyes usually mean dolls. Or puppets. Zee did not like either. At all.

"Magic, guy. I use magic. I can sort of tell you aren't out for my brains or have been paralyzed, mindwiped, and used for someone else's bidding." Sort of. "Nnn, Ted Kord, right?" She leans in to get a better look at him; Zee had run into him a few times, but didn't really know him. Different circles and all--she ran with the magic-folk, usually (JLA only when they needed her). "Okay, Mr. Not-Dead Ted, any other info you can give me? Because that door," She sticks out her thumb and jerks it behind her, "Is not going back to Shadowcrest Mansion no matter how much I want it to. Some pretty strong magic brought me--and probably you--to this... place."

"They definitely don't look like it." Ted waves off the sarcasm and grins a bit. He's used to it, after all.

"Right, yeah, magic. Sorry." Ted crosses his arms over his chest and studies her, equally curious. Sure, he'd seen her around, but they'd never actually talked. "Yeah, Ted Kord." He shrugs a little and gives her a sheepish grin. "If I had any, I'd give it to you. As far as I can tell it's an alternate universe or a wormhole or some kinda thing, and there's apparently no way out." This is definitely a sour look. "Though I gotta say, it's a little better than having my brains blown out."

"Good. I wasn't going for that look today, just so you know." Today or ever.

"Don't apologize. I was teasing. Sort of. Well, sorry we didn't ever really properly meet before now. Sort of sad it takes magic and ... well, possibly some sort of alternate universe wormhole to get us talking." Oh, but this also might mean a team-up, too! How awesome would that be? "Well, Ted," She slaps his back, only hard enough that he can feel it, "No use being negative. You're alive now and if we get out of here, I can probably work around that little indiscretion. Maybe. Don't get your hopes up, but the fact that you're alive and," She looks him up and down again, "perfectly fine," eyebrow waggle--perfect time for inappropriate flirting, of course! "I'd say you've given me something to work with. Anyway, any chance you know a bit more than 'hey we're stuck in some crazy alternate dimension mansion'?"

Babs wheels around upon hearing a new voice. "Well, I have the hands, I just don't know how much help they-- Oh, hey. Zatanna." She pauses. "I don't know whether to be relieved or worried that you're here too."

She smiles warmly and heads to her side, now that she knows who it is. "Pretty much my thoughts upon entering, Oracle. Whatever it is--it's very strong magic. Probably of the ancient variety. You know, the stuff of fairytale and legend. Not anything from the past fifty, hundred years... maybe even more than that." Zee figures that Babs must have been here for a while. No need to worry her further, not that she wouldn't be able to sense it by body language or tone of voice, but... might as well try to stay calm.

"How long have you been here? --er, and anything else you find important to tell me?" This was one of those times that Zatanna's confidence faltered. She wasn't sure if she could do anything, no matter how hard she may try.

"Almost a month," she says, musing over the new information Zatanna provided. "I figured it was either magic or some bizarre multiple universe wormhole effect. No doubles, but... uh... Kirk and Spock are here."

She leans back in her chair thoughtfully. "If you haven't seen her already, you're probably going to run across a really unsettling lady with buttons for eyes who looks vaguely like your mother. She pretty much leads the list of who's-responsible-for-this suspects. ... She is the list, for that matter." She shakes her head ruefully. "I swear I had a normal life once."

Almost a month, huh? Yet she hadn't heard a thing about her missing that long... "It sounds like that, considering no one's mentioned you missing. Time must run differently here. Kirk and Spock...?" Zee opened her mouth to say something more, but she instead arches her shoulders and grins. Widely. She doesn't need to speak a word; her expression says it all: awesome.

"...so basically we were kidnapped by some sort of crazy shapeshifter and... has there been any sort of reasoning revealed? Or are we just stuck with a nutbag that probably doesn't have a specific reason?" Zee shrugs. "Well, at least you once had one."

"What is it you need help with, dear?" The other mother smiles.

Okay. Stay calm. Even if this... person was the one that brought her here, there was a reason. And she shouldn't react poorly. If there was one thing she'd learned over the years, it was that the strangest weren't always the worst. Sometimes it was the most normal that you should watch out for.

Zatanna moves in a bit closer, but not too close. She smiles, though it's half-hearted and crooked. "Ah, I was just wondering how I got here and how I can get back? And if that can't be answered, I'd like to know... well, what now?" Hopefully this wasn't a Hansel and Gretel situation--a pretend-friendly witch that intended to suck her dry of her magic or eat her alive then use her bones for a stew.

"You can return the way you came, of course," says the other mother, although the door may be difficult to find, and if Zatanna finds it, it may well be locked. The other mother smiles beatifically. "But you won't care to do that, I'm sure. It's very nice here."
