Talk about a time you realized that someone close to you was not the person you thought you knew.

Well dressed, slick, educated, and a Zealot. So most of us never completely trusted him from the beginning. But we were learning to love everyone, and we loved him.

It is said that the Devil entered him when we were standing on the old pagan temple in Dan*. But our concept of the Devil was different then, and if he knew Satan, they had know each other before we met. People cannot be made to do things by Satan-humans need little encouragement to be evil.

There are many who say he was the ultimate friend, because he did what the rest of us could not have even contemplated. That's the way they think Up There. Human beings say "He was our friend- he was MY friend-and he betrayed our leader for thirty pieces of silver. Too ashamed to face us, he killed himself. "

I still don't understand why it happened. Why did it HAVE to be betrayal? Unless there was a chance Yeshua might have changed his mind about being the sacrifice. I suppose all loopholes and escape routes had been thought of beforehand.

No one told me anything.

*this incident involving the pagan temple occurs only in
    Mary, Called Magdalene
by Margaret George. But it's nice and creepy, so…
