[ Series ] : Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective

[ History ] :

SPOILERS FOR GHOST TRICK
Ten years before  the events of the game happened, Yomiel was one of the country's top computer software engineers. He was hired to build a system to organize the nation's secrets. However, he soon found that he was being pursued by spies from another nation, and was brought in for questioning when the spies tried to break into his system.

An inspector called Cabanela was in charge of the questioning, and he pressed Yomiel too hard, thinking that he could show off to his coworkers. Then, Cabanela made the mistake of leaving his gun in the interrogation room. Angry and upset over Cabanela's accusations, Yomiel stole the gun and fled to the nearby park. Another detective, Jowd, got wind of his escape and pursued him.

Frightened that the detective would shoot him, Yomiel grabbed a young girl who was playing in the park, declaring her a hostage. But right as Jowd was about to hit the trigger, an unusal event occurred.

A meteorite fell down from the sky and crashed nearby, breaking into tiny fragments. One of these fragment's pierced Yomiel's heart, killing him on the spot.

But Yomiel soon found that he really wasn't dead. Not in the usual sense. When a stray black cat approached his fallen body, he found that he could possess it with his spirit. Later, he made his way back to his own body and left the morgue as if nothing had happened to him.

The meteorite- also called Temsik- apparently gave off radiation that gave ghosts powers that were called "ghost tricks". It also played with time. Yomiel discovered that since the Temsik shard was in his body, he could't really die, and he couldn't age, either. Any wound on him would immediatedly close up, making him effectively immortal. But Yomiel wasn't really alive, nor was he dead. He was stuck somewhere in the middle, a spirit possessing a shell of a body.

After his "death", Yomiel went to see the only person he cared about- his fiancee, Sissel. But when he came, he was too late- she taken her own life.

So Yomiel started living his life of non-existence with the same black cat he had possessed before, who he called Sissel. His powers changed- he found that instead of possessing small animals, he could possess people. Driven into madness, he formulated a plan of revenge that would enable him to make the people who he thought were responsible for his death pay for their deeds.

First, he manipulated a contraption which Detective Jowd's daughter, Kamila, had created for her mother's birthday. By changing it, he made that contraption into an effective murder machine, which killed Kamila's mother. Kamila blamed herself for her mother's death, and Jowd took the blame for her, going to prison. Yomiel was delighted, believing that this was the way of showing people like Jowd how much he was suffering in this life.

Hungry for more revenge, Yomiel struck a deal with the nation who had broke into his system all those years ago, calling himself Sissel as an alias. By selling himelf and his powers, Yomiel would get the pleasure of seeing all the people who he hated die. Also, since the nation was technologically advanced, Yomiel wanted them to make him an artificial life so he could actually live instead of being stuck in his state. To prove his powers, Yomiel told the nation he would make two impossible cases happen.

He first manipulated a young rock star into changing the lyrics of his latest tune into ones that revealed national secrets, even though the rock star had no way of knowing those secrets. Secondly, he made a curry-loving man break into the chief commisioner's office and torch the place, which was a task that this man could never do on his own.

Having proved his powers, Yomiel set on a plan to make the people involved in his death finally pay. The little girl who he had taken hostage, Lynne, had grown up to be a rookie detective who was investigating Jowd's case, and Yomiel posed as an informant that had information on her case. However, he manipulated her with his powers into shooting him. This was caught on a security tape and Lynne soon became a wanted suspect for murder. Then, he possessed the body of his black cat, and waited for the chance to repossess his body again.

But Cabanela, who was now the cheif of the Special Investigations Unit, saw through this and had Yomiel's body moved to a building. Yomiel had to go after his body, and repossessed it, killing Cabanela and a professer who was researching Tesmik to wipe out any knowledge of anybody knowing his powers.

He then left to board a submarine called the Yonua, leaving to go to the nation that would offer him a life...

[ Personality ] :

There are three layers to Yomiel, who is probably the most complex character in the enirety of Ghost Trick.

The first layer is the one he shows to most people, which is an nonchalant air which he can use to his advantage. He gives off the appearance that he is a rather okay person- he isn't overly nice, but he isn't too mean, either. He seems to just be passing through life without any worry. The way he described it, he said he felt like he walked through a world where nobody cared about him. Not that this bothers him- he seems to take it in stride, all while observing how people act in the meantime.

The second layer is his madness. Fueled by the desire for revenge, Yomiel doesn't care if anybody get's hurt or killed, as long as he comes out on top. He is insulting, and often mocks people he hates openly, laughing when they try to threaten or hurt him. He manipulates people extraordinarily well even without his powers, and the fact that he can literally get into somebody else's head just makes it even worse. Morals? What morals? Even that little girl who he kidnapped in the park all those years ago should deserve to die. He's self-centered, and shows no remorse at his actions.

The third layer is the one which he hides exceptionally well. Inside the madness is a bitter person, hating his immortality like nothing else. This is his emotional side, the side that actually feels guilty for taking a hostage all those years ago. He feels rather lonely, as all the people he really cared about passed away a long time ago. The only friend he has is Sissel, the black cat, as it acknowledges him and his existence. The only reason why he pursues revenge is to show the world that inside he is suffering, wasting away from a world that does not care.

[ Strengths/Weaknesses ] :

Strengths:
When the police examined the two impossible cases Yomiel had produced, they concluded that it must have been the work of a manipulator, somebody who made those two people do something not of their own accord. Even without his powers, Yomiel can manipulate people to his advantage, using leverage whenever he can. Also, he is gifted at computers, and can retain information rather well.

Since his powers can be considered godmode in Vatheon, I've weakened them so as to not make it so. Usually, Yomiel can leave his body and possess anything, including people and animals, and manipulate them however he wants. He can also move through telephone lines as a spirit and travel that way.

However, in Vatheon, he will find that he will still being able to leave his body and possess things, but only for an limited amount of time. He can't possess inanimate objects for more than an hour, animals for more than thirty minutes, and people more than fifteen minutes, without being forced back in his body. He can travel through the SFC lines, but that will make him extraordinarily tired.

Weaknesses:

Yomiel is blinded by his revenge to a point where he can't think clearly at times. He sometimes misses things which are right in front of him if he's angry or upset. Also, he tends to blame others for things he's done, even though he knows it was him who was responsible for them in the first place. He also can be betrayed easily, because he tends people to keep their promises.

Power-wise, if the Temsik fragment is removed from his body, his body will no longer be ageless and immortal anymore. People with strong wills are harder for Yomiel to control, and with the limitations discussed above, he won't be able to use his powers as much as he wants to.

[ Other Important Facts ] :

-He always wears his sunglasses. All the time. No one knows why.
-He has a rather informal tone when he speaks.
-No, I have no idea how he makes his hair that pointy.

[ Sample ] :

[Hello Vatheon, you now have a sharply dressed man in sunglasses standing in your plaza, looking confused as he looks around.]

The ocean? Funny...I was on a submarine before I got here. Maybe it crashed somewhere?

[But as much as he looks around, he can't see any sign of the Yonua. He curses under his breath.]

Just when I thought I was going to get my deal...!

[But then he shakes his head and smiles at the camera. People were watching- it was best to play nice for the time being.]

Well anyways...mind if someone shows me a way out? I'd hate to be stuck here. I have a ride to catch, you know. And it'd be really, really bad if I missed it. Help a guy out here? C'mon, I won't bite.

[ Questions? Comments? Concerns? ] : None!
