I have a DVD transfer from VHS tapes. The episodes are pretty facepalm-worthy in a few respects since they look like bad fanfic transferred to screen. Some of the episode summaries sound like they were taken directly from bad stories like "the greasers start a band". Well, how many Johnny Cade starts a band fanfics have you seen? :O

Well, I think it was one of those shows where if it hadn't been based on a successful book or movie, would have been a decent show. But because I was so familiar with what it should have been, all I see is where it failed
( ... )
I think TV show Tim Shepard looks a little more like my idea of Tim Shepard. David Arquette's Two-Bit also fits my idea of the character better than Emilio Estevez in the movie; he's a little more wiry and maybe a bit more peppy. But they butchered his family history too, with a mom that resents the hell out of him and no sister. (That having been said, Ponyboy is possibly a biased narrator and doesn't see the occasional times when Two-Bit's mom does have her "I've had it up to HERE" moments) They did a nice job of exploring Two-Bit's family history though; I did like his moments with his Dad and how they explored their similarities.
But overall yeah, the episodes radiate cheeziness like you would not believe. There's one episode that is potentially not brain safe if you try to fathom what the director and producers were thinking. If they were, at all. Basically it's the did-they-discuss-appropriate-boundaries-AT-ALL episode.
;; I half wish I could watch the show, but the one part of the episode I saw made me glad I have things to keep me occupied and away from that show. It seems like it's really cheesy.
Also: Well, how many Johnny Cade starts a band fanfics have you seen? :O Errg. I'm guilty of writing one of those. It was bad. XD

I can tell you one thing though, I couldn't dare force myself to finish the episodes.
