Illuminating, to say the least.

Way to go, LJ. The post was formerly on the front page, now it's not.

Looks like a number of people are migrating, and I'm thinking of doing so as well. Dreamwidth is popular, as is Tublr. I may join both, and consider elsewhere too.

Gosh, I hardly come here anymore. I really should. I hate FB. I don't know why I use it. I guess it's handy for some things, but I hate that you can't design it as you like, I hate that the "who sees what" settings are such a pain in the ass, and I hate that everyone I freaking know has friended me and I really don't want them up in my business. I'm thinking about making a new one with a fake name just to friend people I actually like and want to communicate on a frequent basis with. And that's probably about 10 out of my 80 "friends." I've definitely had some problems with this staff's lack of caring and assistance, but it's been easier to use and I prefer a blog to...whatever FB is supposed to be. I have a Tumblr but that's not good for what I need, either.

Agreed. I haven't managed to get into Tumblr or much of any of the other places so far. I know what you mean with FB, it's pretty bad that one even has to consider using a fake name to keep people out of your business. When did something that should be fun/useful become detrimental?

I much prefer blogging as well, FB I think in a lot of ways is the best way to "stay connected" to people without actually, generally, even being connected. I felt more in touch with people while blogging, just a lot of people I know hardly come here anymore and I'm not sure of where a good place is to go where people will still be around and just importantly can keep up with them too.

Plus, at least in some regards, you can keep people who you don't want up in your business at bay because unless you actively tell someone/reveal on places like this, it's not announcing to the world your name, location, etc.
