In This Post, I Share My Unpopular Opinions About Things

1. Hillary Clinton is going to win the Democratic nomination. Edwards is too unimpressive and Obama is just too green to get older party support. I am uncomfortable with a lot of her decisions, but I will vote for her anyway because I know that she will keep abortion legal and put moderates in the Supreme Court. It's simplistic, but it's no ( Read more... )

I feel so bad for that woman. The fact that her husband is even running right now is just kind of disgusting to me. I think the sympathy vote would come out for him, but not even a deathbed endorsement could purge the "meh" from his public image. I'd like to see Obama get it together too, and I think he'd make a great VP or cabinet member to get some credibility for the next election.

You can vote for whoever the hell you want as soon as the country isn't being run by a self-perpetuating clan of conservative idealouges who take every political victory as a sign that they are doing God's work. I would love to see a viable third party, but it ain't happening right now, and the next election is important. Is it really so bad to be practical this one time?

on #3 i couldn't agree more. I owe a large portion of my sanity to Catholic Charities, even though I lied to my counselor incessantly. I work at a faith based shelter here in Chicago and we're one of only a hand full of homeless shelters that take single dads. Which is really, really sad.

In case yer curious, I'm doing a bit of everything at the shelter. Mostly intakes and computer database upkeep and various computer things. I'm so over qualified. People's computers and such don't work. I bring up tools and such, but generally they just didn't know how to turn on the computer. XD

ps: i got my fingers crossed for Obama. Hilary is so anti-video games, she's pro-lobbying, and has no intentions on universal health care any time soon. It pisses me off.

Oh yeah. When you work for a non-profit, you find out that you're more talented then you'd ever dreamed. Don't worry- if you've overqualified it's easy, and it's going to look awesome when you apply for your next job. Plus, it's hella more fufilling then working at Blockbuster, right?

That makes me really sad that more homeless shelters don't take care of single dads, but it doesn't surprise me. Restrictive funding does more to hurt non-profits then people realize.

I think Obama will have his day in the sun, but I don't think it's going to be quite yet. I'm fine with Hillary because she'll clean house. Who knows, maybe she'll make Obama her VP? I secretly want Gore to run again, honestly.

John Edwards isn't too bad either, but I know he isn't getting the vote. But I'd totally pick him over Hilary.

Point 7 is far too true. Granted, I have not seen a complete Michael Moore film, but since this is because I was so angry after half an hour because he kept telling me stuff I already knew while ominous music played in the background, I believe that my opinion is valid enough. How can someone who's against Bush seem like so much of an idiot?

I don't know much about Hillary. It's nice that you guys have a choice between the possibility of a first female president or a first black president, but only in a sort of "Look at us, we're so progressive and you can't criticise our leader because he/she's a pioneer!" way. Which leaves out what kind of person the candidate is. And all the issues. Still, someone who doesn't come off as a hick who is inexplicably popular with the electorate would do.

Michael Moore is a terrible filmmaker and a terrible person in general. Every time I watch one of his movies, I am stunned that anyone falls for his crap. I will say that his first movie, Roger and Me, was actually pretty good. However, people started giving him money and his head swelled up and now he's just an embarrasment ( ... )

1. Yep, sadly.
2. Yessirree!
3. I agree--despite my reservations about faith-based anything, I'm more a pragmatist than an ideologue. If they get the job done, that's great.
4. Yep. National foreign aid is the worst, because it's channeled through foreign governments--after all the graft, re-allocation, etc. happens, there's precious little left.
5. Complex issue.
6. Don't want to see it, not going to see it ;-)
7. I can't believe that I actually haven't seen any of his films. I will rectify that very soon.

1: Aw, it's not so bad. I'm hoping that if she wins the presidency she'll be all "Universal health care! Suck it, Newt!" and laugh maniacally as she signs it into law. Probably not, though.

3: Same here. These services need to exist, and that's all there is to it.

4: The worst part of it is, people see all of that happening and won't give money to charities anymore, so the precious few groups who actually manage to get something done get largely screwed. That's why Oprah makes me so mad- she has the clout to get shit done over there, but she just stages publicity stunts and waits around to get her ass kissed.

5: I know. I think my frustration comes from seeing my sister lose and gain a hundred pounds over and over again, to say nothing of the rest of my family. I wish instead of doing fad diets and making themselves sick they'd just eat healthier and be happy with their natural body type once all is said and done.

6: You ain't missing much.

7: Ditto. His films do inspire discussion, which is good, but it won't be anything new to
