I saw the world set ablaze! I will show you that great and terrible fury!!

-Metal Gear Solid 3 is amazing. It's the best video game I've played since River City Ransom. Kojima slowed things down and brought the story back to the characters and the relationships they share. And the characters do not disappoint. Snake is just enough of a bad ass mixed with just enough of a cold, distant soldier, combined with a little hint ( Read more... )

I always wanted to go to one of your shows. I had a lot of fun. Seeing your face light up when you saw us alone made it worth my time. I'm so glad you enjoyed our presence.

You have 60 days... theperfectdoug February 26 2005, 05:31:18 UTC
Start losing weight, ive got a lot riding on this! The Nirvana stuff was directed at everyone, ive been hearing a lot of grumbling about the band lately and no one seems to be sticking up for them. It all started around the anniversary and hasnt died down yet. Ive got an issue of Spin that has a few really good articles of the band in it you can read sometime if you want.

PS how weird is it that we comment in each other's livejournals and we freaking live in the same house? :)

I'm not saying that there weren't other talented bands out there, especially ones that predated Nirvana. Im not trying to compare quality of music either. Comparing the quality of Sonic Youth and Nirvana is like comparing two filet mignons, but one is served shaped like a star and the other is served shaped like a snowman. There's no difference in quality its just in aesthetics (and if you prefer eating snowmen...which i do). What im saying is that if the great music you create has no exposure, how much of an effect can it truly have? Nirvana got me started into Sonic Youth. Im sure for many people (especially those slightly older than us who were there when Youth first started, thats the other way around). Nirvana had way more mainstream exposure, thus they could sell more albumns, thus they could effect more people. Yes Kurt Cobain was a handsom man, but every movement needs a figurehead. More than that Cobain had charisma, boatloads of it. He's charming in every interview he gives but at the same time gives off this sense of being ( ... )

Snake Eater blows my balls clear off my crotch! What a fucking masterpiece. I'll agree with you that there was very little development on the Cobra Unit characters, but I think that's kind of a good thing as it may have distracted from the more important characters' backstories.

The Fury rules because he is a cheesy space man, and that's awesome.

As for the "breaking the forth wall" bit, I think they intended for The Sorrow "fight" to be the surreal, Mantis-esque part. That and they were able to reference real life events and media (Para-medic and her damn movies) way more in this game than the others which, I guess, could be kinda "breaking the fourth wall"... on the other hand, i'm not even sure what that phrase means...

But yeah, play that bad boy through a couple times and you'll find tons and tons of new shit every time. It blows me away. My favorite little easter egg has to be the three snakes you can find during the fight with The Boss.

Also, Ocelot is best.

Kuwabara... theperfectdoug February 26 2005, 05:39:05 UTC
Yeah dude Snake Solidus is delicious! My favorite easter egg is probably undead naked Raiden, or the croc cap. Im playing thru it again right now on hard and the higher difficulty actually makes the game way more enjoyable! The Fury rules, the End rules, Volgin rules, Ocelot rules, The Boss just rules so much its hard to put into words. Great, great piece of gaming.
On an interesting note i guess Kuwabara is an expression people say when outside in a thunderstorm which is supposed to keep you from getting hit by lightning!
I just noticed this playing thru the second time but when Signit and Snake have a radio convo after the scene with Ocelot versus EVA when discussing her shooting methods with the Mauser Sigint comments on that style only being taught in one place on earth. I cracked a little smile... Damn the things i failed to notice the first time through.

Doug, first off, you play WAY too many video games. So do most guys actually, but yea... Second off, Nirvana was good, but they weren't THAT good... And, third off, music of this day and age is directed toward teenagers... It has always been that way, and always will be that way. Music is directed towards the teens... Especially rap... I like rap and all, but it's totally directed towards teens, which is all good, but that's all it is.
And, you need to call me sometime, damn. I feel like I haven't talked to you in forever!
