Time's Abstract Concept Of The Year.

"You". As in "Tube". Yeah. Whatever.

Of course, this isn't the first time Time Magazine has strayed from what you think would be the only rule of its "Man/Woman/Person of the Year" selection process: It has to be a person.

1927: Charles Lindbergh becomes the first Man of the Year. The concept is off to a good start.
1934: Nobody new out there. Let's do FDR again.
1936: Let's do a Woman of the Year: Wallis Warfield Simpson, Duchess of Windsor
1937: First time they couldn't stick to one person: Generalissimo & Mme Chiang Kai-Shek
1941: Roosevelt. For the third time.
1942: Stalin. Again.
1948: Truman. Again.
1949: Churchill. Again.
1950: First time an abstract concept is chosen: the American Fighting-Man
1956: Equal-opportunity time: "Hungarian freedom-fighter"
1959: Eisenhower. Again.
1960: First non-military profession: "U.S. Scientists."
1966: First complete age-group: "Twenty-Five and Under". So if you were born between 1951 and 1966, you're a Time Person of the Year! My parents will be happy.
1967: Lyndon B. Johnson. Again.
1968: First non-married group: Astronauts Anders, Borman, Lovell
1969: "Middle Americans"
1972: Nixon becomes the first man featured in consecutive years (sharing the second with Kissinger)
1975: First cop-out to a complete 50% of U.S. population: "American Women". And you thought "25-and-under" wasn't a large enough group.
1982: First inanimate object named Man of the Year: The Computer.
1983: Reagan. Again. (With Yuri Andropov the second time)
1988: Oh hell. Just make it the entire planet: "Endangered Earth"
1990: "The Two George Bushes." Actually the same George H. W. Bush, he becomes the first person to be featured twice in the same year, in the same issue.
1998: Clinton. Again. (With Ken Starr)
2003: First time they run out of abstract concepts to feature and rehash one from 53 years previous: "The American Soldier"
2004: George W. Bush. Again.
2005: First Bill Gates appearance. Strange it took this long.
2006: "You". There you go. Everyone. Let's just ditch the whole concept while you're at it.
