I always kinda thought that Ned would die but his dad would bring him back (sacrificing himself to "make up" for leaving him or something like that) thereby creating a way for Ned and Chuck to finally be able to touch. He wouldn't have his power or something after being brought back. I don't know, that's how it ends in my head.
