The VERY first thing I did when we moved in was replace the light fixture of death. The thing was HIDEOUS. Seeing as it was July (and all the lovely wedding balances were coming due) I had to be thrifty.

So we have a work boy. An 18-year-old co-op student who works on my floor. This is an intelligent kid from a great school system. But we discovered that he somehow got through 12 years of school without having a vocabulary. The words he does not know amaze me. Have you ever listened to a song that spoke to you on such a clear level that it almost made you cry? Two or three songs a year do that to me. I think it's an appreciation that, as screwed up as the world may be, people are still  creating truth and beauty. This has been the busiest and most stressful week at work. I'm going crazy. Totally ready for next week to be here and things to calm down.

Today is Chris's birthday. Made him a super-yummy dark chocolate cake.

Today is truly only an entry to keep up the holidalies. Today was about the worst work day ever. I wish we were in a position to let me quit and go back to school full time. I just wanted to come home and curl in a ball and cry.

Oh well.

Today we saw the first part of Tin Man, which is awesome. I made Weight Watchers friendly nachos and apples with caramel dip.

I hate my job. Hate, hate, hate it. I dread going to work every morning. I CAN'T WAIT to go back to school and finish my degree and get a job I actually like - even if it pays less than my current one. I stare at spreadsheets ( Read more... )

So I guess I'm going to try for holidailies.  I'm pretty boring, so my entries will probably be short.

Chris is starting the process of building me a wall of built ins in the dining room. There will be a sideboard and shelving above it to store and show off my depression glass, which is taking over the house. That's cool.
