Yeah, with the water levels rising I found myself coming up for air. Nice to breath again.
The -40- is a typesetting mark used to indicate the end of a press release. It was quite useful when releases came off "the wire" i.e., by teletype, but it's been almost 10 years since I last worked at a newspaper so I can't say for certain if its use is still common.
Now that I think about it though, I'm not sure that it's not a "-30-"; one or the other though certainly. ;)
