I have this bad habit. Procrastination aside, I have another bad habit. I buy things and forget about them completely. It's so bad that I forget to even look out for them in the post, so I don't know when the things I buy come or not. It's perplexing. Though I have to admit I love surprises, the pleasant sort of course. But seriously, I can't keep track of my purchases and it's rather disturbing how I have the attention span and the memory of a goldfish. It's not just online shopping, it's even real life shopping. I just forget D=
Oh and can someone please give me grammar/English lessons or at least edit me? I have had enough of my horrible command of the language which is starting to scare me a little. Plus everyone around me seems to be growing up too fast and there are talks of the future all over the place but what if I don't want to grow up? I'm a child like this, I want to stay in this world a little longer, a world I create and destroy at whim.
Title: Worlds
Rating: PG
Characters: Nearly everyone related to Lelouch Lamperouge.
Summary: A series of 10 drabbles or character introspectives if you prefer.
A/N: Spoilers everywhere. Might be continued. Oh and edit in progress so bear with me.
1. SHIRLEY FENETTE
Shirley loved Lelouch. There was nothing complicated about her love. Straightforward and hopelessly earnest, her love was as clear as a cloudless summer's day. It came to her naturally. She loved him before he was Zero. She loved him after he was Zero. She loved him with or without her memories. He was her Lulu, so she loved him simply. She loved him because she was Shirley.
Shirley's love was like the wind, enveloping everything in sight. Good or bad, she took it in her stride and never stopped loving him. It might not seem like it but it's always there. Shirley tried to stop but how do you halt an avalanche? It didn't matter if Lelouch didn't love her back now. She had the patience of a saint. After all, she believed that the best thing in life was worth the wait.
2. MILLY ASHFORD
Milly hated Marilyn Monroe and all the stereotypes of blondes. Whoever said that blondes had all the fun should come to Area 11, she mused because she was most definitely not getting some and she was blonder than anyone in Ashford Academy. But Milly had to admit, being blonde had its advantages. She had every excuse to be air-headed while people had every excuse to indulge in her incredulous plans and love her for her harmless smile. Under her seemingly guileless laugh and dancing eyes, she could pretend that her Graduation Event was not a last ditch attempt to make Lelouch hers.
3. RIVALZ CARDEMONDE
Rivalz had a list which he ranked everything in his life. Lelouch was right behind Milly's brilliant smile, after Milly's sparkling eyes, behind Milly's every word and action, and definitely not above his trusty motorbike. Not that he would confess to it, because admitting it would mean he was one of those bastards who only thought with the lower half of his body. If asked, Rivalz would not hesitate to call Lelouch his best friend because he thought the world of Lelouch, which explained why Lelouch came before Arthur.
4. JEREMIAH GOTTWALD
Jeremiah loved Lelouch and hated Zero, that's for sure. But if Lelouch was Zero, then with his warped robotic common sense, it justified every pain and change he went through, even if it meant he was less of a human than before. Because chivalry like old school pride and honor, along with his name and status, did not die when his body did. So orange became his new favorite color.
5. KOZUKI KALLEN
Kallen would give the world for Zero but she despised Lelouch for all he was worth, which to be honest in her book was quite a bit. Zero was a shining beacon of hope, a man she would kill and die for. Compared to Zero, Lelouch was painfully real and hopelessly three dimensional. He was a shadow of the greater ideals that he could stand for but Kallen knew that was impossible. Lelouch was too human, he lacked ambition and ruthlessness that Zero prided. So she saw them as two separate entities, the only similarity being that mask. A mask that confused and intrigued her all at the same time, tearing her apart like she didn't matter.
Kallen believed that if you lied to yourself long enough, a lie could become reality. So she wore her heart on her sleeve and held her head high. She was in love with a perfection that could not be human. It was then Kallen knew she might never love another. No one would come close for they couldn't match up to an enigma. An enigma akin to the comic book heroes her brother loved.
6. KURURUGI SUZAKU
Suzaku was with Lelouch since the beginning. They were unlikely friends, childhood best buddies, long lost class mates, bitter enemies and unwilling partners. He knew Lelouch was wary. He was after all, a dangerous double-edged sword, the last black knight on the chess board and Lelouch did not take well to losing. But Suzaku stood firm and practiced his frowns like he imagined she would. Lelouch could use him for all he cared because nothing could beat the flash of pink curls and the solidness of knighthood.
"Together we can do anything," Lelouch muttered under his breath like it was a mantra that would come true if you chanted often enough. Suzaku was silent, not because he didn't believe his oldest friend. But because he thought, with Lelouch, they would probably fuck up this screwed-up world even more. And because he wasn't the Suzaku of before, that Suzaku died with her.
7. C.C.
Lelouch sighed, grateful for his infinite patience and tolerance. For a woman who had seen through time and space, C.C was not as knowledgeable as she should be, or so he thought. But tirelessly, he explained the rule for the Nth time.
"Every object in the Universe attracts other objects to it with a force directed along the centers of the objects that is proportional to the product of their masses and inversely proportional to the square of the separation between the two objects."
"Will you stop speaking alien?"
"How can you not know the principal laws of Physics when you were probably there at its discovery?"
"For a boy who wants to conquer the world, you have the sensitivity of a plank. Don't you know age is a sensitive issue for women?"
"Don't you know it's rather unbecoming to insult the new King of the World, you immortal witch?"
"To be."
"Matter of time."
"No, it's a matter of whether I understand the damned theory if not I cannot help you send the Knightmare to space."
"Two bodies attract with a force equal to the product of their masses and opposite to the distance between them, that's gravity..."
But C.C had tuned him out at the word 'bodies'. She wondered if people like her could be considered as a body in this Universe or if the law applied to her. C.C. subscribed to the rules of Physics and the theory of Gravity was like the back of her hand.
C.C. did not gravitate towards Lelouch. She'd like to believe that they were nothing more than accomplices. Made of convenience and promises unfulfilled. But C.C. knew better, she was the gravity that bound them together.
8. ROLO LAMPEROUGE
Rolo was accomplished for his age. Malfunctioning heart aside, he worked 4.6 times better than the other assassins (V.V kept a record), which made him the prime candidate for Operation Lelouch. But it didn't matter how many enemies he killed or how many missions he completed for the Institute, he would always be labeled as failed experiment #060. But Rolo didn't mind it, not much. He just held his breath every time he heard it. Tiil his heart could bear it no more, then the words and sounds would disappear and he could pretend they didn't say it.
When Lelouch found out in the midst of a mission gone wrong, Rolo shrugged it away like it was nothing. "It's okay Nii-san, it won't change anything." And in a heartbeat, he cast that cursed power over and over again. Wider, stronger and longer. Rolo struck them down relentlessly. For Nii-san. Through the damaged Knightmare's wireless network, Lelouch could not see Rolo's knuckles turn pale or hear the tinkling melody of something not so mechanic. The visual transmission was a mess of static, distracting Rolo from the oncoming assault but he refused to cut their conversation short. "If it's Nii-san's will, I will have it no other way." His words came out in shuddering breaths and his hand quivered on the controls, aching to fist at his chest.
"Rolo, breathe." And in a word, the knot threatening to cramp him out dissipates into nothing.
Rolo held his breath not to block out the world. He held his breath because he hoped. Lelouch gave him hope.
9. NUNNALLY VI BRITANNIA
Nunnally's world is simple and clear cut. It is cleanly divided into three sections. There are the people from her memories, the people she loves and then there is Onii-sama. But Onii-sama is special so Onii-sama deserves a category on his own. A category that is larger than the other two put together but Nunnally doesn't think it's unfair. She is a creature of love with plenty to spare. It's just that in her world, Onii-sama is the sky. The endless azure space above, stretching across the corners of her heart indiscriminately, watching over her day and night.
Nunnally is sure that the sky will never fall down on her. And unlike the ever shifting moon, her sky will never change.
10. LELOUCH VI BRITANNIA
Lelouch's world is not as complex as it seems. Beneath the mask is a growing boy, an average boy who makes mistakes like everyone does. A boy thrust into many positions and decisions that his tiny shoulders cannot bear. A lonely boy clinging onto the last shreds of familiarity and love. A boy desperately trying, trying too damn hard to protect his world and hold on to his heart. Lelouch is after all, just a boy, misunderstood by the rest of the world.
But sometimes they forget that Zero is human and that he is allowed to be imperfect. There are times they forget that miracles are only miracles if they are rare. They forget that Zero can only be a hero when there is adversity and destruction. They forget their purpose of peace. They forget that there is a person underneath the symbol, an ordinary person in an extraordinary circumstance with the odds stacked against him.
Beyond it all, Lelouch's world is perhaps, simpler than Nunnally's. Because even Zero cannot defy gravity, so Lelouch is bound to his path. A fixed path, an endless cycle, an orbit that he will not stray from. Because Lelouch is like Mercury and Mercury, the closest planet to the Sun will never stop revolving round it.
It just happens that Lelouch thinks the quality of Nunnally's smile is like the Sun.
