When you're in the forest look behind you, 'cause that's where the ranger's gonna be

I wrote the bulk of this last night - or, more accurately, in the wee hours this morning, before finally getting tired and toddling off to bed.So: I am a gnome. And also a very poor lj-friend of late. But the inevitable excuses will have to wait for another time. I should *so* be in bed right now, but I can't seem to sleep! All my excitement and ( Read more... )

This sounds at once really really fun and awful! I would be so frustrated and upset in your situation with the utterly unfair quest being forced on you. It seems like fantasy games are supposed to be about acting out things you could never do in real life and being bullied into something by completely unreasonable people happens all the time in real life. I have often wondered about role playing games. I'd really like to try Larping sometime.

I totally am a nerd! A nerdy nerdy nerd nerd! Only I wish I were a little smarter as a result. You know: some fruits to show from all my labors of nerdiness.

I'm trying to get as many women into my group as possible. One day, I fantasize about starting a female-centric roleplaying group, so I'm trying to get an idea of what being a GM (in case there was no more experienced player available) demands. So far, I have learned that it takes remembering AN AWFUL LOT OF RULES, all at once. I don't have infinite confidence in my current GM's level of imagination, but he is very good at keeping track of all our rules!

Hahaha! Sounds like fun. I used to love RPing D&D type games in high school. Now I do freeform RP, which does not *require* you to follow any specific previously-thought-out plot. The plot sort of writes itself as you go along. Still, it sounds like you have a fun group. On with the quest!

Hmm, I'm curious about this freeform style. How do you and your fellow group members agree on what sort of plot would interest you all? Is there less emphasis on questing and battling? (So far I am enjoying questing and battling, in part because it gives me a relatively narrow focus as I try to learn to function well as my character, but there are a lot of other non-battle, non-quest scenarios I can think of that I don't know if we actually will ever play out, in between battles).
