Surprise to Start a New Year

She had not been able to get what she wanted for him before Christmas, so she had given him other things. However, when the searched for items finally arrived, Ryan was as excited as a little kid, bouncing around until everything was just perfect

"I am so glad you like it." She kissed him back, and held him close. It was so nice to be with a man who was not afraid to show emotion. Well, Frankie and Alex showed emotions, but mostly homicidal or cynical ones. "Aunt Caro got the pictures, I just put them in the frame. But she really got some great pictures, and I know it had to be tough."

Ryan kissed him, again, running her fingertips over the tears, smiling. "These are happy, right? It is good to see you happy. I love that...love..." She almost said 'you', but she was scared to, so instead she just said, "...that smile of yours. Hungry?"

"I would love that, although I think I can tell who your mom is, because you look like her." Ryan smiled at him, happy and holding onto that happiness with all that she had inside of her. "Aunt Caro just wants to make sure that we are happy and she was glad to do it." There had been more, in her conversation with Carolina Jacks, a lot more, and Ryan barely heard Altaaf's compliments about her smile, or her cooking. She was replaying the conversation with her aunt, in her head, and knowing that she needed to share it with him, she still didn't want to break up this lovely mood. Why was it that every good thing had a down side that could potentially cost them the wonderful peace that they were enjoying

Ryan was confused, for a minute, at what Altaf said about the pet store. When she realized, she laughed and shook her head. "Oh, no, I don't mean get one. I just thought he might enjoy looking at them. He seems to like animals." Taking a drink, she thought for a few minutes, then nodded. "I think a fish would be a nice start, for him. They are beautiful, and it will give him something to take care of in his room." She could see that this was pretty overwhelming for the boy, quite a culture shock. "I think maybe a few days at home would be good, let him get used to us, the house...we can swim with him. Nice and peaceful, then we can try more outings." Ryan forgot how noisy and bright and loud America would be to a small boy, and she berated herself internally for aiming for too much, too soon

She pulled out her cellphone and took a picture of their license plate, which seemed to annoy the man, but the woman ran to get into the car, while Ryan walked away. She paid no attention to anything they might have said, because she didn't care and because it was better that they stew, wondering what she might do. Would he get pulled over for drunk driving? Would they get towed? Sometimes the best revenge was the one you never took, but that they would fear for days

"I love you, too." Ryan was very surprised at Altaaf's kiss, but she loved it! "And no thanks are needed. I thoroughly enjoyed it." Her grin was wicked, as she knew that he knew her well enough to know that, now and then, she needed to let off steam. Usually she did it in physical exercise, but verbal intimidation was great, too

After the wedding

"Now issss time to par-tay!" Sara threw up her hands, and everyone chuckled. It wasn't like they were having a huge reception, but even with just their close friends and family, there was a sense of joy and fun. Ryan hugged and kissed each of the men who had stood with her new husband, thanking them for supporting him. HUSBAND! Wow! That was a trip

Alex was always pleased when anyone showed him the respect he felt he was due, and so Altaaf hit just the right note with the green eyed spy. "Rybka is very special, and when she told me of your mission, I knew that Carolina would assist, but sometimes..." He laughed and shrugged
