This book was on top of the nearest pile to my left: "He had to stay close to the ship, of course, for he could never go far from her; but she sensed his desire to speed as far and as fast as he could, for pure exhilaration. She shared his pleasure, but for her it wasn't simple pleasure, for there was pain and fear in it too." The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman
This book was the nearest book on my right that went to 103 pages: " 'I bet if you chopped him up into a thousand pieces he wouldn't come back,' said Elmer. 'Maybe.' " In the Company of Ogres by A. Lee Martinez
