plurk CHARACTER
Name: Gakupo Kamui
Canon: Vocaloid
Timeline: His timeline will be from the current year of 2011. As Vocaloid is based off PVs and not a specific story, and thus considered 'canon', the following videos best represent his personality. He has done far more than these, however.
Dancing Samurai: a basic representation of Gakupo, as INTERNET Co. portrays to the public. There is an
alternative video of the same song he has done.
Tsugai Kogarashi |
lyrics Sora ni Todoku Suna no Yama | (no English lyrics)
Personality:
Gakupo was created by INTERNET CO. to be the, well, purplest of all the singing androids. This company, which excels at spewing out successful artists, is just one of the major ones that create musical, highly advanced machines to sing hit song after hit song in the entertainment sphere. His entire demeanor reeks of chivalry, honor, discipline, and musical talent that expands over a vivid spectrum of genres. Although the talent part is not as recognized as the other, more popular androids of the Vocaloid family, he doesn't let that get him down. He's proud that they're getting far! He may be a bit worried about being left behind, though. The life of a musician is surely fast paced.
Gakupo is polite with a sense of humor, which can be taken the wrong way, depending on the situation or person. When with friends or relatives he can be seen as having a playful nature. He is proud of his talents, but doesn't like to flaunt them, but if challenged he will prove his skills. Proud, when concerning Gakupo, is just a way of saying he is sure of himself, but he knows there are other flaws he needs to work on. Like keeping the mirror clear so other people can use it, or singing at a decent hour in the morning. Gakupo doesn't like making mistakes, but he will make amends to fix them. It would be the honorable thing to do. However, he isn't going to bend over backwards for someone to accept his apology. Some see such a personality trait as cocky. He sees it as doing what he can to make something right. When he gets in a sour mood, he's sarcastic at best, mopey at the worst, and is not afraid of speaking his mind if something is bothering him. Usually it is easy to tell when Gakupo is upset, for this would be a rare occurrence.
Along with being a musical entertainer, he's a skilled dancer and warrior of the
rainbow, noisy blade, although mostly self taught during whatever free time he has. Gakupo simply refused to merely download the necessary information on being a proper samurai. Trial and error were better educators. He does live up to the Seven Virtues of Bushido, but he isn't perfect at it. Bushido being the code of conduct most samurai lived by, as well as most of Japanese society. Even in modern day Japan, such conduct is still upheld to some degree.
The aesthetics of Bushido were instilled into him by his creators who designed him with an image of the traditional side of Japan. This may have been decided in order to appeal to the female crowd, as well as older generations. A good portion of his songs and collaborations are steeped in Japanese tradition while having a fusion with modern music, much like Japan today; a successful amalgamation of old and new. It was fate that his wiring be infused with the Seven Virtues.
No. 1
Rectitude (義 GI): this virtue is the ability to make a decision, respecting all equally.
No.2
Courage (勇 YU): This Virtue is the ability to handle any situation.
No. 3
Benevolence (仁 JIN): This Virtue is to prevent arrogance with in one's self.
No. 4
Respect (礼 REI): This virtue is to have respect for all.
No. 5
Honesty (誠 MAKOTO): This virtue is the ability to do things to the best of our ability.
No. 6
Honor (名誉 MEIYO): This virtue is sought after, but only follows correct behaviour.
No. 7
Loyalty (忠義 CHUUGI): This virtue is the foundation of all the virtues, without dedication and loyalty to the task at hand, the desired outcome cannot be achieved.
He takes the code of the warrior seriously, and is often seen in acts of chivalry, no matter the cause. Help is given when necessary, and often times when a person may not want it. It's the code that created his personality, helped shape it to the likings of the current crowd. The only other things that he takes just as serious are music, dancing, and eggplants.
Gakupo has a tendency to be selfless, which may or may not be healthy. He usually has good intentions, even though it may be Gakupo butting into someone else's business. Vandalizing property? He'll be there. Stealing from babies and old ladies? He'll be there. Swearing up a storm? Yes, he will be there, too. Disgracing the art of dance? He'll probably tell you to kill yourself. Nicely. Those sorts of situations tend to irk him, as they go against what he believes in. But overall, he is generally cool headed and friendly.
Traveling along this path, Gakupo wants to make himself more than just a singer. More than just a robot. He actually very much dislikes the term 'robot'. There will be a frown and an ensuing conversation on the differences between the two, at least what he believes them to be. Of course, he was created for music, the one language he believes to be spoken in any country and appreciated by all. INTERNET Co. gave the Vocaloid family leeway to define themselves and possess a more humanistic trait. Each and every one of them use their talents via promotional videos to prove to the world that they should be considered artists, first and foremost, over being seen as an android.
With all this combined, it's easy to see that fame did not make Gakupo obnoxious and spoiled as stardom did to most others, but he is a bit vain about his looks. The Big Wigs of INTERNET CO. would have his head if they found even a lock of hair out of place or a small wrinkle in his clothing. He had to keep up with the competition, after all! Even as a celebrity, he is very humble and does not go out of his way to make others jealous, although he could certainly understand such a feeling. But jealousy is an ugly trait in a person that can make them do equally, or more, ugly things.
First Person:
[There is soft singing coming from someone where on your person. Is it from your shoe? No? How about your bag? Ah, it's simply the communicator broadcasting his voice. It's a dark melody about paranoia.
Obviously, he must be new!]
That train ride was so eery! There wasn't a conductor, but...I know someone was there...
[Gakupo makes a surprised noise at the extra weight in his sleeve pocket, drawing out the communicator.]
What in the world is this? This isn't mine! [Gasps sharply] Did I steal something?! Oh no! What do I do?!
Third Person:
"What do you mean we have to cancel the show?" Blue eyes glared across the table to his agent, the record company director, and other suited staff members. The air was tense as they all sat in the modern conference room. As it should be. It wasn't everyday that Gakupo got upset enough to raise his voice, even just an octave, outside of singing. His agent was the first to speak up after a long silence.
"We're sorry, sir, but this venue is too small, and let's be honest, no one will come--"
"I'm not performing at this venue to bring in a crowd, you know," he retorted, cutting off the other person. The venue in question was a small park in an urban city, but not as famous as Ueno Park or Yoyogi. "I'm doing this for those who can't come out to big name areas, and make people more aware of my music. This is also a chance for me to connect with my fans on a more intimate level." He shifted in his seat, one of the cushy ones (obviously chosen on purpose) still displeased that they were putting money over the fanbase. "A bigger venue would make their experience less interactive and less enjoyable. Who wants to bounce around and get their eyeball smashed in by a careless elbow? Or get shoved around? That can be tolerable for the younger generation, but I want my music to be for all ages."
He leaned forward, folding his manicured hands upon the table. "At least allow one small park venue? We can even invite Megumi, or Kaito, or any of the others to join in. But this is important to me. Also, think about the benefits of this idea. Having more devoted fans means they'll be brave enough to influence their friends into listening to my music."
There were glances and further small talk during this meeting that lasted another twenty minutes. Upon its conclusion, Gakupo strode out of the conference room, looking quite pleased.
Miscellaneous Info
As an android, Gakupo will have more strength than the average human, but it's usually limited to being able to leave dents in concrete walls or metal. He'll also have higher level of agility, such as running faster or having better reflexes. There are small panels that hide ports and retractable wires on the sides of his neck for interfacing with computers, downloading, and uploading data. He prefers to do things the old fashioned way, however. He is too stubborn to 'cheat' and do it the easy way. It would be dishonorable to give up without trying!
Without charging/rest he can run for sixty-nine hours, and while in sleep mode he can last a full week and reserve more energy and thus lasting longer during the times he would be awake. His batteries are solar powered via the turquoise panel on the front of his inner suit, so he usually does not need much down time to recharge if his batteries get too low. There is a port for charging via an electrical outlet, and he does possess a few different cables to do so. As an android, he doesn't necessarily need food and drinks, but alcohol somehow still has an effect on him. Making him far more relaxed than usual and loose lipped. Eating slows down his processors and makes his system sluggish.
Although his processors are set to back up system files once a week, Gakupo will sometimes choose to do them manually. His headset is removable, and with his 2011 album release, his clothing has been given
an update.
He has the power to dance, sing, create music, play most stringed instruments that need plucking or strumming. Mostly ordinary skills for a musician.
Gakupo knows both Japanese and English, but it will be obvious that Japanese is his first language. Due to the musician he gains his voice from, Gakupo has a very wide vocal range, reaching higher octaves with ease. This is best exploited in the song
Cendrillion, where Gakupo took on the female role.
Eggplant dishes are his specialty when it comes to cooking, but anything outside of that and Gakupo is useless. Minus making tea.

How would they use their abilities?: For hilarity? Mostly, he'll just be singing/dancing a lot and getting into silly shenanigans.
Appearance: He wears a white jinbaori, white hakama, and has an inner suit that looks as if it can be one piece. He had very long, purple hair and carries a sword that makes musical notes when swung. There is no reference to the specific sounds, so headcanon says it sounds similar to
a glass harp. Here is
a reference picture to his overall design, along with his sword.

Have you read up on how the game works?: Yes, characters can earn money via missions, and all communicators use the Flaming Ferret application!
1st person sample:
[A voice can be heard from an unknown place. Is it from your pocket? From under your bed? Your coat?
No, it is simply emanating from the communicator. Who would be singing anything at a time like this?
The voice trails off and a sigh is heard.]
I'm not in a good mood, it seems. It's times like this that I really appreciate what music can do for one's spirit, but I'd really like to listen to different types of music right now. Does anyone out there have any suggestions? I mean, there must be some music here from Earth, right?
3rd person sample:
