My first day of work was alright as far as first days of work go. That is, there's always an adjustment period while you get used to a new place and a new system and new colleagues and new bosses, but I think taking all that into account, it went fairly well ( Read more... )

I've already done so.

I think it would be more helpful to do the alphabetising while no one's in the library. I suppose I could recruit some people doing detentions to help you?

Yes indeed, Mister Macmillan, that would make more sense. Which is why we're not doing it. Because Merlin forbid we take the more logical and pragmatic path which would cost the staff less time...

That would be very helpful indeed. It might be a good deterrant as well. Once they see how boring it is they'll never rule-break again.

Great. I'll send some miscreants your way promptly.

Thank you! That's very considerate of you. As loathe as I am to deploy any personal connections, I may just be able to wrangle a pass to the restricted section for this...

You should have dinner with me. You wouldn't have to cook.

Couldn't you get some minions to do some alphabetising?

You know very well that I don't have minions. I'm not a Slytherin after all.

Seems Madam Pince has recruited you as hers, then.

It's very easy to get some. Just tell anyone they can't get their books till the library is in shape. Hey presto! Minions.

That's not very nice, Terence. Either comment. Are you really that angry at me - still?

Besides, Mister Macmillan seems to have found me some. Sort of.

Need a hand? I think I have some free time this afternoon.

That would be great, Seamus. Are you sure that you wouldn't mind though? It's terribly dull.

If it is terribly dull, then I shall find a way to make it more fun. After all, someone had to pick up where the twins left off.

Um, you are aware that the library isn't really a prime party zone, aren't you? And that you can't really smash and break and generally wreck stuff while you're there? And that you'll have to be quiet? And that Pince will be watching over us with her beady monocled eye all the time? And that as a member of staff, I'm responsible for overseeing you, so the blame for any wrong-doing will be apportioned onto me?

I can help this afternoon as well. Now that I don't have Ancient Runes, there's nothing else to do.

Thank you, Miss Bones why are all these people suddenly offering to help me? As I was telling Seamus Mister Finnigan above though, it is rather slow and dull work, so are you certain you don't mind?

No, I don't mind at all! I figured that it would be a useful way to spend an afternoon, instead of staring at a wall. I will be able to give back to the school.

That's a fantastic attitude to have. Well, it is, and it's great that she feels that way, but about alphabetising books? Well, with you and Sea Mister Finnigen helping me, we should get the job finished a lot more quickly and at least have each other's company while doing so.
