Did this not bug anyone else?
The real truth comes out in the very last episode, and it is confirmed that yes, Honma is insane and he suffered from Episodic Memory, but seriously, wtf?
Ok, so in simplified dot point.
- Honma kills Misaki and records his message, leaving the tape recorder to be found by Kamiyama
- He then goes to the roof to kill himself, Kamiyama tries to stop him and falls.
- Honma runs
-- SIX YEARS PASS
- Kamiyama wakes up and Honma is shown having his little fit with Yoda (Bahahaha) which is when his mind splits and things start getting really backwards. He tells Yoda that Yamiyama killed Misaki. Yoda knows this isn't true (which then begs the question why the fuck he helped him do all this in the first place and why he didn't just give Honma the letter earlier before he snapped and went insane. Ahh, fuck, I think I just twisted my ankle in the plot holes!)
- Honma starts to believe this, goes crazy, locks Kamiyama up and makes a personality for him and the show as we know it starts.
Well. What bugs me is this. Honma is made out to be really smart, right? No, he is obviously really smart. He is good at judging people and finding what their weaknesses are and digging up information that other journalists couldn't find, or even the police didn't know about. He is an overly intelligent guy.
So why the hell didn't he go back and get his suicide tape or check for security tapes?
Now maybe I am crazy, but if I was going to kill someone and then myself... fair enough. Who cares if you leave evidence behind. BUT if I just killed someone, tried to kill myself and the only possible witness ended up in a coma and thus for whatever reason I decide not to kill myself, I personally would find it an all important step to go about collecting that evidence. Hey, Kamiyama is in a coma so my suicide tape isn't going to be very helpful right now and since I am still living, maybe I should check and make sure there wasn't a security tape in the room or hell, on the roof.
It is a logical step to cover your tracks. Especially for someone who is so smart and cunning. Obviously once his mind goes a bit crazy and he gets things confused, that wouldn't matter so much but that didn't happen until SIX YEARS LATER. But that left him with six years to think and plot and all that stuff and ok, shock aside, something vital like that should click in your head at some stage, even if it is a few days later. Where's my tape? Did anyone see me?
So did anyone else notice this? Did it bother you? Or do I just have too much of a calculating mind? I mean, yes, it was a J-Drama with Johnny's boys in it so I wasn't expecting the world. But it was actually rather well done and surpringily intelligent, all things considered, and they they finished it up with those two pieces of the puzzle. Sadly disappointed.
