It's when all our troops went to Gallipoli, in Turkey and got their asses wiped on the floor something like one hundred years ago in the first world war. It was our first call to war! Raaaaaaarrrrr!

ANZAC stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps. Like Scarlett says it was our first call to war, well the first big one anyway. And yes, like Scarlett says, it was a slaughter. I guess this is what happens when your plans to take Constantinople fail. They landed at Gallipoli and the slaughter basically began straight away. The real miracle of this excursion was the evacuation of the troops. But now ANZAC day commemorates the loss of lives throughout all the whole war (60 000) and all the wars since then. We have dawn services all throughout the country and New Zealand and Turkey and then all nationalities march through the town/city. There are always people trying to take ANZAC day away, saying we shouldn't celebrate a defeat, but it's there to remember the ones who die, "lest we forget".
