----------------------------------
He thought this was the worst idea ever, when he was standing in front of Ohno's house, a bag of instant cup ramen in one hand, the other was hesitant against the doorbell, and wondered if he should press it or not. It was his first time coming to Ohno's home alone. The first time he was here, he was accompanied by Sakurai-senpai and Aiba, so it was less scary. But now, he could hear his own heart pounding inside his chest and it was so fast he was unable to breathe. He must’ve looked suspicious since a couple of Ohno's neighbors gave him a look before they entered their homes, and Nino could feel his blood rushing to his face. What was he doing here, anyway? Just because Ohno-senpai was absent from school today and Nino was worried about the older boy, especially since Sakurai had mentioned that Ohno lived alone because his parents had some business overseas. And more than that, Nino noted with a blush that he kind of missed Ohno since he had no chance to meet the older boy the whole day and he couldn't concentrate at school. He wanted to visit Ohno no matter what.
Even though he had decided so, now that he’s standing in front of Ohno's apartment he couldn't bring himself to ring the doorbell. What should he say if Ohno opened the door? What should he say if Ohno asked him why he was there? And worst of all, what should he do if Ohno had decided to ignore the doorbell and to continue sleeping? It sounded very much like Ohno and Nino had no idea of what he should do if Ohno really decided to do those.
It was the fifth time Nino's finger almost pressed the doorbell when his phone suddenly rang. He cursed inwardly when he saw Aiba's name appear on the screen.
"What?" He snapped, and Aiba giggled on the other line.
"Have you met him yet? How is he?"
"No," Nino signed in frustration "It's embarrassing Aiba, what should I say when he opens the door?"
"Tell him it's because you miss him." Aiba answered immediately, just so Aiba-like to be so straightforward, but Nino was Nino - not Aiba - so Nino knew how embarrassing it was to say something like that to the older boy. Especially when Ohno had never realized Nino's feelings before - Nino didn’t want him to, either. He wanted them to stay like this, being best friends and there was always something more to that. Saying stupid things might break everything between them and to be honest, he wasn’t prepared for it yet.
"It's stupid Aiba," Nino sighed "I just can't tell him!"
"Why not?" Aiba sounded defensive "It's true after all!"
"Fine, fine, whatever," Nino chuckled "I'm going to hang up."
And before Aiba could protest he hung up the phone. Staring at the door, he thought it might be better if he had just waited for tomorrow when Ohno shows up at school and he could ask him then... Coming to his home like this somehow was embarrassing too, and Nino didn't want the older boy to get the wrong idea - that Nino liked him and - no, it was true, but Nino didn't want him to know so...
"Nino?"
The door swung open and Nino froze as he found himself staring straight at Ohno. The older boy was looking at him in wonder, his hair tangled and eyes were sleepy and half-closed. Ohno wore only his pajamas and Nino had to look away to hide the blush creeping onto his face before Ohno could see it. The other boy gave Nino a small smile as Nino stuttered, his voice getting weak suddenly.
"He... hello, Ohchan."
"Why are you standing there?" Ohno asked, he sounded curious, but more than that, he sounded cheerful and Nino had to fight the hope rising in his chest.
"I... yeah, to visit you?" Nino smiled wider when Ohno grinned at him and signaled him to enter. He entered the cozy apartment and felt a little relaxed, because the air around Ohno was always calm like this. And he started to wonder why he was even scared to ring the doorbell earlier.
"How do you know I'm here?" He asked as he slipped out of his shoes. He could hear Ohno close the door behind them.
"Aiba-chan called," Ohno explained softly "He told me to open the door, he said there’s a special gift for me."
"What???!!!" Nino rolled his eyes. He was going to kill Aiba after this.
"I didn't expect that gift to be you," Ohno laughed, and Nino could feel heat burning his face. The urge to kill Aiba subsided as he saw Ohno grinning at him, as if the older boy was also happy to see him here, and he felt his heart beating a little faster when Ohno took his hand and tugged him towards the sofa.
"Do you want anything?" Ohno said as he rummaged through the fridge "I don't think I have anything to eat here..."
"Ah, this..." Nino suddenly remembered the abandoned bag in his hand "These instant ramen are for you."
Ohno's eyes brightened at the mention of his favorite food and Nino couldn't help but grinned shyly.
"Thank you Nino," Ohno said cheerfully "I haven't eaten anything for the whole day so I'm famished..."
"You didn't eat anything today??" Nino cut him off with a shriek and Ohno nodded sheepishly.
"What's wrong with you, Ohchan?? You know you’ll have to take care of yourself!"
"But I was so tired I couldn't go out to buy anything!" Ohno protested, and Nino's anger dissipated as if it had never existed.
"How do you feel now?" He asked worriedly as he leaned in and put his hand over Ohno's forehead to check the temperature "Are you running a fever?"
Ohno blinked a few times when Nino's hand rested on his forehead before he nodded slowly.
"Guess it's not that bad but my head hurts like hell..." Ohno mumbled, and Nino got really worried. He made sure Ohno finished his meal and then he urged the older boy to rest in bed.
"You are not going to sit there," he had said "You’ll have to sleep!!"
And Ohno obediently let Nino pull him until he was lying on his bed, his blanket carefully tucked around him and Nino searched around for the first-aid box.
"Take this," he ordered, and Ohno did what he was told. For the whole time Ohno's eyes didn't leave Nino and Nino didn't dare to look at Ohno in the eyes because Ohno would discover how worried Nino was and how much he hated seeing Ohno sick like this. He wanted to take care of Ohno for as long as he was able to, so long as the other boy would allow him. He made a mental note that he would make Ohno sleep and eat properly from now on.
"Nino," Ohno called from where he was buried under the blanket - Nino wanted to make sure he was warm enough - and Nino looked up. "Nino."
Ohno looked like a spoiled child demanding attention and he looked so cute Nino couldn't resist.
So he stood up and came to sit beside Ohno's bed. Ohno reached out his hand immediately and Nino took it inside his, feeling the heat of Ohno's skin on his own.
"You are burning," Nino commented with a frown. "How do you feel?"
"Much better," Ohno smiled "I can't even move my hands this morning."
"Why didn't you call me?" Nino bit his lips "I could've come here to help you!"
"But you were in school..." Ohno rolled to his side so he could look at Nino's face clearer.
"I could've skipped a day," Nino sighed "You're more important."
"Sho-chan wouldn't let you," Ohno chuckled.
"Like I care," Nino smirked and they laughed. Somehow being with Ohno like this felt so right, and nothing had meaning anymore because he was here with Ohno, their hands linked and Nino felt like he didn’t need to say anything or do anything, just let this moment quiet but so, so happy.
"Nino is comfortable," Ohno said with a content smile when he put Nino's hand on his burning cheek "Your hand is comfortable."
Nino's face reddened helplessly when Ohno leaned closer to his hand and the other boy seemed to be on the verge of sleeping. But when he thought Ohno had fallen asleep already, the boy said again and this time Nino felt his heart skip a beat at Ohno's words.
"I want to hug Nino," Ohno mumbled into Nino's palm.
"Eh?" His heart hammered painfully fast inside his chest as Ohno continued.
"I want to hug you to sleep," Ohno said again and this time he opened his eyes and looked at Nino expectantly. Nino lost all his ability to come up with anything to say when he looked into those eyes and just nodded, still too stunned to think of a reply.
Ohno gave him a big smile as he shifted and made space for Nino, who slipped in within seconds as he was scared Ohno would change his mind. When they were lying side by side, Ohno turned to him and wrapped his arm around Nino's waist to pull him closer. Nino was worried that Ohno could feel his heartbeat which was beating like crazy in his chest, but if Ohno did, he said nothing. He just leaned in closer to Nino's body and made both of them comfortable before he gradually drifted off with a smile on his face.
"Oyasumi, Nino." Ohno whispered, and Nino dared to put a light kiss on Ohno's forehead before letting himself fall asleep too.
"Oyasumi, Ohchan."
