Chapter 7: Fragments.

“Nino, why don’t you go to sleep?” Ohno yawned. Nino was still sitting in front of the television, his eyes glued onto the screen, concentrated on playing the game Ohno had just bought for him that afternoon. He figured out that Nino really loved video game and the other could spend the whole day to play it without taking a break. Sometimes Ohno had to drag Nino out of it and get him to bed, or Nino would get sick from sleep deprivation.

“I’m going, I’m going to…” Nino mumbled, but his eyes didn’t leave the character and his adventure. Looking at Nino’s eager eyes, Ohno could only sigh and gave in, as he sat down beside Nino and put a hand on his thigh subconsciously. Nino seemed startled, but he said nothing and continued playing his game.

It was surprising when Ohno found out that he was in love with Nino, but maybe it was even more surprising that he somehow felt the love from Nino, too. The other would look at him occasionally, and when their eyes met Nino would hastily look away, though he couldn’t hide the blush on his cheeks. Sometimes Nino would snuggled closer to him without thinking, though later when he realized it he immediately backed away with a small apologize. Ohno didn’t know why Nino appeared to be really scared to get close to him - as if Nino had decided there was a line between them and none of them would be able to pick it up. The thought bothered him sometimes, but when he looked at Nino, felt the love for this man burning his heart, he promised to himself that he would find a way to Nino’s heart.

He started to doze off, his head resting on Nino’s shoulder, his hand remained on Nino’s thigh, and he was in a very uncomfortable position but he didn’t care. It was Nino here and it was all he needed to fall asleep peacefully. When Ohno started to dream, the door bell rang annoyingly and Nino jumped, made Ohno nearly fall on the floor with his head first. He winced in protest when Nino smiled and patted his head coaxingly before coming to the door.

“Who’s that?” Nino asked, his hand already on the doorknob when he heard an unmistakable cheerful voice outside.

“Ohchan!! Nino-chan!!! It’s us!!!”

“Aiba? Sho?” Nino asked in confusion as he opened the door widely to let them in “What are you doing here?”

“Nino-chan!!!” Aiba suddenly pulled Nino into an embrace, embarrassed Nino as he didn’t know how to react.

“What’s wrong?” Ohno also came to the door and when he saw Aiba hugging Nino, his pout appeared on his face. “It’s late, Sho-kun.”

“I know,” Sho exclaimed as he looked at Aiba in confusion “But he insisted to visit you two!”

“Why?” Ohno arched an eyebrow, and Nino pulled back to look at Aiba uncertainly. “Aiba-chan?”

“Nino-chan!” Aiba grinned, his eyes sparkled “I think I have some hints about your identity!!”

It was shocking at first, as the other three standing there and looked at Aiba, dumbfounded. It was Ohno who spoke first, his voice dry.

“Really?” He said. Nino was staring at Aiba as if he had never seen him before, his face turned pale as he waited for Aiba to confirm it.

“Yes!” Aiba exclaimed.

“Let’s go inside,” Sho offered, his hand already on Aiba’s back as he pulled him into the room and locked the door behind them. Aiba obediently followed Ohno to the living room, with Nino still staring at him. He stated immediately right when he sat down on the sofa.

“Ohchan, remember the one we saw last week on the car? I met him again today!”

“What?” Ohno’s eyes widened. Nino didn’t even blink. “How can you know it’s him?”

“He’s exactly like Nino!” Aiba informed, and with that Ohno’s jaw dropped helplessly.

“What do you mean?” Sho interfered, a frown appeared on his face.

“He looks totally like Nino,” Aiba answered, and he turned to look at Nino “He’s just paler, and weaker… I don’t know, there’s something not really exactly right, but, I think they are twins!”

“Nino has a twin?” Ohno said in shock. It was reasonable. He had seen that person that day, and now he knew that one was just exactly like the Nino who was living with him. “Are you sure?”

“It’s just my guess.” Aiba shrugged “But is there any other way? You can see it clearly!”

“It makes sense…” Ohno mumbled, his eyes darted to Nino. For some reasons, Nino seemed frozen, and Ohno almost felt the fear Nino was bearing. It made him wonder what scared Nino so much if it was a hint to finally he could remember who he was?

“Nino-chan? Do you remember that?” Aiba asked hopefully.

Nino stayed still, his eyes glued to the ground, his face turned even paler each minute. Ohno could see how tense Nino had become, just like the last time when Nino had burst out at the midnight, crying and trembling like a lost child. Nino’s breath started to be uneven, his voice caught in his throat and it became harder to get the air into his lungs. He gasped for air, but fail as if there was something weighing on his chest, preventing him from breathing. Ohno couldn’t let Nino be like that again, no, not now, so he hastily came to beside Nino and wrapped his arms around the other man’s waist, rubbing his back comfortingly.

“Breath, Nino…” Ohno mumbled, and Nino did what he was told. He closed his eyes, buried his face onto Ohno’s shoulder, gripping Ohno’s shirt tightly to stop his tremble. Aiba and Sho had never seen Nino like this before, so they stared at their two friends dumbly.

“Aiba-chan, we should stop here.” Ohno turned to Aiba and said solemnly “I know you want to help Nino, but he… needs to rest right now. He’s not feeling well.”

Aiba opened his mouth, but Sho pulled him back as he nodded in agreement.

“We should let him rest, Masaki,” Sho looked at Aiba sternly, and Aiba pouted, but immediately closed his mouth and stood up, followed Sho to the front door. Before he went out, he looked apologetically at Ohno.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to…”

“It’s okay,” Ohno cut him off and smiled softly “I know you just wanted to help him. And I thank you for that… I’m sure he’s grateful too. But… Nino needs time, guys. He… has some problems with his past…”

“I see,” Sho answered softly and waved their salutation. Ohno sighed in relief when his two friends went out as he closed the door and locked it before returned to the living room, where Nino was still sitting on the sofa and hugging himself gloomily.

When Ohno sat down beside him and started to rub his back, he heard Nino’s tiny voice.

“I don’t want to go back…” Nino whispered, his eyes widened as if he was staring at something which had been threatening him since then “I don’t want to go back…”

“You don’t need to,” Ohno immediately said, feeling worry filled up his stomach. He didn’t know what had caused Nino’s fear, but whatever it was, he was not going to let it happen again to Nino. Never.

He turned around and hugged Nino tightly once again, until he felt Nino’s breath evened back and he kissed Nino’s temple slightly.

“Let’s go to sleep.”

Nino nodded, but making no move at all. He still hugged Ohno tightly as if he was his lifeline. Ohno kissed his forehead again before leading him onto their share bed and laying him down on the mattress, taking the blanket and wrapped around him carefully. Then he slipped under the cover and turned to hold Nino in his arms.

Nino laid there beside Ohno, his hand was still holding Ohno’s shirt tightly, his head was still burying near Ohno’s neck, and he started crying when he thought Ohno had fallen asleep. Ohno immediately wrapped his arms around Nino protectively, when he murmured into the latter’s ear.

“You don’t need to go back.” Ohno whispered and he heard Nino’s sob “You can stay here with me…”

Nino shook his head quietly, but Ohno didn’t give him a chance to say no.

“You can live here with me… because I really want you to.”

Nino raised his head up, fear flickered through his face, but Ohno could see that he was hoping. He was waiting for Ohno to explain what that could mean. And without any delay - Ohno had never dared to say it straightly - now it was only him and Nino, and Nino badly needed a confirmation that he was important to someone…

“I love you, Nino.” Ohno whispered.
