Chapter 22: Intimacy.
Lights broke through the thin curtains of his window, landing on his cheeks and woke him up gently. Nino opened his eyes and blinked, turned around to see Ohno’s face nearly bumped into his ears. The older man was still snoring beside him, his arms wrapped around his waist. Nino smiled. It felt all warm and fluffy whenever he woke up and saw Ohno there right beside him. It was like the long-stretched part of a dream he had always kept in his heart since he had awareness of this world.
Thinking about the past was just pure painful, so he tried to wipe away those dark long nights when he was crying to sleep and woke up with a hurt body. It was still like a mess, blurry video playing in his mind, as if he couldn’t really remember those things but still his mind was playing it again and again. It felt like he was outside, looked into that fog curtain and seeing rather than feeling the hurt himself was bearing. Like the entire memory hadn’t come back yet, and he was still searching for those fragments to be himself again. Though sometimes he wondered if he should. Looking at Ohno like this, he felt like he could forget all those sadness and just stay like this with the man forever.
But the presence of Ninomiya was still bothering him after all. He knew clearly Ninomiya was the man in his nightmares, in which he could only feel hurt and scared and despair and agony covered him. He also knew clearly Ninomiya was the reason for him to run away, to want to find freedom, to try protecting himself.
However, thinking about the part of running away, he could recall nothing.
Where did he find that courage? When he had spent most of his life being suffered by Ninomiya, why suddenly did he want to escape? It was not a usual thing, because he knew - even though he always felt the otherwise, he knew that Ninomiya needed him. The way Ninomiya always kissed him like there was no tomorrow, the way Ninomiya searching desperately for his touch… He knew there was something. He didn’t hate Ninomiya. He didn’t hate himself. But he couldn’t keep being with him if he wanted happiness for his soul.
But what had triggered the idea of running away from Ninomiya?
He couldn’t recall the reason why he had been born. As a clone. Though he knew what clone meant, he just didn’t know why Ninomiya needed a clone. Was there anything else he couldn’t remember yet?
Nino clutched his heart tightly , there were definitely something he couldn’t recall.
The movement woke Ohno up meanwhile. The older man stirred slightly and opened his eyes, surprised to see Nino curling up beside him. He looked small. Then Ohno reached out his hand to touch Nino’s hair and called softly with his raw voice.
“Nino?”
Nino didn’t answer. He snapped out of his flow of thoughts as he looked at Ohno’s eyes - the eyes that had the power to calm him down whenever he got panic. Ohno was looking at him worriedly, his hand tightened Nino’s shirt as he pulled their body closer.
“What’s wrong?” Ohno asked.
“Nothing,” Nino smiled, in spite of seeming a little stiff, it was genuine. Now he was happy with Ohno and he didn’t need anything else. Although there were still mystery about his identity, it was just fine. He could stay like this with this man for the rest of his life - building a new self, being a new person, forgetting all the sadness and misery he had gone through. It was everything he had been wanting since the day he left.
“You looked pale,” Ohno said and leaned in to kiss Nino’s forehead slightly “Nightmare?”
“No, I was just thinking,” Nino admitted. Ohno stopped and looked at him questioningly.
“What were you thinking, then?” Ohno nudged him slightly and Nino smiled, his hand came to the older man’s face and he pinched Ohno’s cheek playfully. Ohno squeaked with a grin on his face.
“Hey! Answer me first!”
“Not now, old man,” Nino grinned and got up. The warmth of Ohno’s arms left him, and the older man was also sitting up with a pout on his face.
“Come on, it’s already late!” Nino complained, and Ohno suddenly realized something as he jolted up.
“Yabai!!! What time is it?”
“Nearly 7am,” Nino frowned “What’s wrong?”
“I have to be at work around 7!!!” Ohno climbed out of his bed and rushed to the bathroom. Nino just shook his head disapprovingly.
“If you had let me know about that I would have woken you up earlier.”
However Ohno didn’t have time to protest as he rushed out of the room as fast as possible. When he left, he didn’t forget to put a slight kiss on Nino’s cheek, causing the other man blushed brightly, and with an apologize since he couldn’t walk him to Jun’s shop, he waved his salutation and left their home.
