Chapter 23: Disappeared.
Nino was losing in his thought while he was walking deliberately towards Jun’s shop. It was rare when Ohno left soon and didn’t come along with him since they became a couple - Ohno always insisted that he wanted to see Nino being safe at the shop before going to his work. Nino felt grateful about that - because he knew what Ninomiya could do if he really wanted to get a hand to him, he always felt fear nagging at the back of his mind whenever he was alone. And although Ohno had assured him that he would protect him, Nino just couldn’t help but feeling insecure for both of them.
Just then he didn’t hear the footsteps behind him, nor did he notice the strange noise of something being crumpled, so he didn’t prepare himself to be suddenly caught when he turned to the desert road. It was early, and he didn’t know where all the pedestrians had gone, but he was alone in the street, and suddenly there were hands catching his arms and tugged them violently behind his back, and hands covered his mouth with a handkerchief. He could vaguely register the smell of ether and someone’s voice ringing at his ear before falling into unconsciousness, his mind was whirling dizzily and he could feel nothing but the darkness surround him suffocatingly.

“What are you doing here?” Ninomiya took a glance at him when he stepped inside the hospital room. Jun just shrugged and tossed a bag in front of Ninomiya, who took it with a skeptical look and stared at him.
“Have something for you,” Jun replied with a smirk and comforted himself at the seat beside Ninomiya’s bed. Ninomiya grunted, but Jun could see a hint of a smile flashed across his face when he lowered his head to examine the bag.
“Hamburger?” Ninomiya asked, his voice raised excitedly as he took out the warm box and opened it eagerly.
“Hey, you forgot something?” Jun chucked. Ninomiya frowned slightly, but then he smirked and took a bite on the hamburger.
“I won’t say ‘thank you’ because it’s not like I told you to do this.” Ninomiya shrugged and grinned happily as he munched on his hamburger happily. Jun couldn’t help but want to smack Ninomiya’s head; however, at the same time, he was grinning idiotically at Ninomiya’s expression.
It was a relief, because he thought Ninomiya would never open up for him - it was like an impossible mission that he wanted to complete. Ninomiya acted guard at the first few times Jun visited him, but then he started to relax and even joked around with Jun sometimes, and this fact made Jun happier more than anything else. Slowly, he felt like he was approaching Ninomiya successfully, and just thinking about that made his heart warmer secretly.
“Stupid,” Ninomiya’s voice interrupted Jun’s thought as he looked up and stared at Ninomiya.
“What?” Jun snapped, but there was no hint of anger in his voice.
“Your grin,” Ninomiya answered conversationally, a grin appeared on his face.
“The same with you!” Jun retorted.
“No, mine is brilliant,” Ninomiya said nonchalantly, and Jun couldn’t help himself this time as he reached out and smacked Ninomiya’s head slightly “Oi!”
“Look, who is the stupid one?”
“Of course you!” Ninomiya exclaimed.
“Say that word again and I’ll make you regret saying that!”
“What can you do? Stupid, stupid, stupid!!”
And with that, Jun suddenly stood up abruptly, causing Ninomiya to startle. He backed away, further into his pillow but Jun didn’t stop leaning in until they were merely inches apart, and Jun could almost smell Ninomiya’s scent.
“Say it again and I’ll kiss you,” Jun breathed, and he sensed Ninomiya’s shivering. A smirk tugged at his lips as he leaned closer to Ninomiya, whose eyes were closed tightly and who didn’t even try to push him away. Jun felt like winning a price.
Just when their lips were about to touch, the ringing from Jun’s pocket interrupted them noisily. Jun cursed in annoyance when Ninomiya snapped open his eyes and started to giggle beside him. Jun threw him a glance before taking out his cell phone and snapped at whoever was calling.
“What?”
“Jun?” Ohno’s voice resounded, and Jun immediately cooled down. Ohno continued, with a rather worried voice “Do you know where Nino is ? He didn’t answer my phone!”
“Huh? No. I haven’t seen him yet today.” Jun frowned. He thought due to being busy with Ohno Nino didn’t come, but it seemed like the case wasn’t like that.
“But… he should’ve gone to work today, shouldn’t he?” Ohno gasped, and Jun could picture Ohno’s round eyes when he was worried.
“Yes, but he didn’t come.” Jun answered, a little uncertain “I thought he was with you… So you said, he did go to work?”
“I think so… I left early today so I couldn’t see him… Jun, I’ll call you later okay? I think I should go home and check on him!”
“Oh, okay.” Jun sighed when Ohno hang up. He looked up and saw Ninomiya’s eyes on him. “What?”
“Nino?” Ninomiya asked, his voice softened.
“He didn’t answer Ohno’s call.” Jun replied and leaned back to his chair “I think Ohno is worried.”
“How is he now?” Ninomiya asked, his look became faraway.
“Huh? He’s fine,” Jun crossed his arms, feeling a little jealous but he said nothing. “He’s happy with Ohno.”
“Really?” Ninomiya smiled, then he didn’t say anything. The uncomfortable silence suddenly grew and Jun shifted at his seat awkwardly.
“You know,” Ninomiya suddenly said, and Jun raised his head immediately, hopefully… “I may know why he left me now.”
Ninomiya looked at Jun, and with a small smile, he continued, didn’t let Jun a chance to talk.
“I… have never treated him nicely.” Ninomiya took a breath “I… always hurt him, didn’t I? Though I really believed that it was my way of loving someone…”
“I was just so wrong, wasn’t I?” Ninomiya closed his eyes, and Jun could see regret behind his frown. Jun took his hand and squeezed it tightly, like telling him I’m here for you.
“… But… you…” Ninomiya mumbled, and a blush flashed across his face and almost surprised Jun by how he looked so small at the very moment, like he wanted to disappear right in front of him. Jun didn’t need to hear more to know what Ninomiya meant, so he beamed brightly, causing Ninomiya to blush even more and Ninomiya snapped.
“What’s with that grin?”
“Nothing.” Jun replied, his heart was so light that he thought he could even fly now. So he pretended to ignore Ninomiya’s red cheeks as he leaned in and kissed him slightly. “You’re cute.”
“You’re the first one telling me that!”
“Then I’ll tell you for the rest of my life.”
Ninomiya’s red face was priceless that Jun decided he would say this sappy things more often, just to see more of that expression on his beloved person’s face.
