Chapter 2
When he arrived at his school, it was nearly late. The school gate was about to close and there were only some boys rushing towards it hastily, including Nino. Finally he entered safely, and then he immediately ran to his classroom as fast as possible.
Aiba was waiting for him with his same grin, and when Nino put down his bag, Aiba patted his back friendly with a concerned smile.
“Overslept?”
Nino just grumbled. The fact that he had overslept didn’t annoy him as much as the fact that Ohno had woken up before him and didn’t even call him. Ohno had also transferred to his school, and today he had gone to school before Nino even woke up. That selfish boy, Nino muttered with a dangerous glare towards Ohno’s classroom - and he tried to catch his breath. Aiba took Nino’s silence as an obvious answer so he just laughed when he launched into his seat.
“Nino-chan,” Aiba asked, his voice was full of eagerness and Nino knew what Aiba was going to ask so he just glanced at Aiba and then looked away.
“Don’t ask anything,” He warned, but Aiba was being Aiba when he continued to ask as if Nino’s warn had never been said.
“How’s your new dad? And your new brother? Does he attend our school as well?”
“What?” Nino rolled his eyes. Aiba could be an extremely annoying friend if he really felt like being one. “I don’t want to talk about them, okay? Just shut up, Masaki!”
Aiba shrugged with the same grin. Nino could only sigh and leaned to his armrest, clearly showed that he didn’t want to answer any of Aiba’s question. Jun turned to him with a curious look.
“Grumpy, huh?” Jun smirked, and Nino rolled his eyes again. Why couldn’t his friends just leave him alone??
“Nino’s new brother is a handsome boy and he couldn’t stop thinking about him the whole last night so he just overslept this morning.” Aiba said nonchalantly and Nino had to fight the urge to beat Aiba up and gagged him until he couldn’t breathe.
“Who the hell said that???!!!” Nino almost roared as if it wasn’t his classmates were around them and consequently they were glancing towards the three of them curiously, Nino had really jumped at these stupid friends. “I didn’t…, hell, Masaki, just shut up!!!”
The teacher came for Nino’s rescue just in time. Aiba just giggled and came back to his seat, and left Nino with red-face and pounding heart.
He would kill Aiba someday soon, he remarked with himself coldly.
The bell rang when Nino woke up from his dream, and until then he didn’t realize he had fell asleep, in fact his last memory was about the teacher started to talk about the beginning of History of Japan and now it was the Word War II already. He yawned while he was gathering his stuff carelessly and throwing all of them to his bag. It was finally his break time - his favourite time of day.
Or so he thought.
When he stood up and was about to go to the cafeteria with Aiba, an unwelcomed person was standing at the classroom door and was apparently waiting for him. Some of the girls in Nino’s class passed Ohno with a curious look and some even went and talked to him. Ohno was smiling to one of the girls and Nino could feel his blood rushed to his face.
“What the hell are you doing here??” He raised his eyebrows when finally Ohno’s eyes met him and Ohno smiled warmly at him, as if the cold look Nino was giving him was the warmest greeting ever.
“I need your help,” Ohno answered earnestly, and Nino felt like he could never refuse him no matter what he was going to ask. “Can you give me a tour around the school?”
“Huh?” Nino answered absent-mindedly, distracted by the way Ohno was picking his nose - it was annoying, but… cute, somehow - and he snapped back to reality second after that “What? You can ask your classmates to do that, can’t you?”
“But…” Ohno looked troubled, and Aiba chose that moment to interfere with his big grin.
“Are you Nino’s new brother?”
Ohno looked up and when he saw Aiba, he reached out his hand with the same smile that could make any heart beat faster.
“Yes, nice to meet you. I’m Ohno Satoshi.”
“Aiba Masaki,” Aiba grinned enthusiatically “So you’re our senpai, right? Do you want a tour around? I can give you one! This school is really interesting, you know, since…”
“Masaki!” Nino snapped warningly at his friend, but as usual, Aiba ignored him.
“… since Nino has many secret places here and certainly I know all of them, which one do you want to see?”
“MASAKI!!!!” Nino howled, and Aiba jumped back at he sensed Nino’s real anger.
“Thanks, Aiba-chan,” Ohno said softly, and Nino stared at him. Did he just call Aiba ‘Aiba-chan’? How could he call him as if they were closed already? “But I just need to know where the bathroom is, and besides that, I also need to know where the teacher room is since I have to sign some applications…”
“What applications?” Nino asked before he could stop himself, and when Ohno looked at him with slight surprise in his eyes and his little wider smile, Nino couldn’t help but blushed.
“For the Art club, you know,” Ohno answered brightly “And the Music club also… They seem interesting.”
“Oh! Nino is in the Music club!!!” Aiba exclaimed, and he earned a smack on his head from Nino who didn’t know why he didn’t want Ohno to know it. He didn’t want to go to the same club or even same school with the boy and also definitely he did not want to share the same room with him! Because that meant he would have to spend all his day with Ohno, and just that thought was enough to drive him crazy.
“Really?” Ohno looked genuinely happy and Nino who once again hated that look just because it made him feel guilty. “Then we can go there after school together!”
“I don’t want to!” Nino snapped, and he almost regretted it after that because for the first time since he treated Ohno like this, the boy looked slightly taken aback. Nino looked away to hide his red cheeks and moreover, he didn’t want to see the look on Aiba’s face either. Aiba now had his special look telling him why are you doing this, and Nino hated that. “It’s… well, I’ll show you the teacher room…”
“Okay,” Ohno answered softly, and he turned to Aiba “Aiba-chan, see you later.”
“You can join the Science club with me, and we can go together,” Aiba suggested playfully and once again, there was something really annoying rising in Nino’s chest and he tried his best to suppress it, but in vain.
“I’ll think about that,” Ohno laughed cheerfully for the first time since Nino met him, and his laugh made Nino frown. This boy could laugh so... delighted like this? “I’ve never been good at science, though.”
“Don’t worry, it’s much like a game,” Aiba giggled enthusiatically “You do experiments, and if something explodes, you laugh.”
“You make it sound really like a game,” Ohno commented cheerfully, and they both laughed together. The laugh was so unpleasant for Nino, so much that he couldn’t bring himself to laugh together with them, because he hated this. He hated how Ohno was so good in winning people’s heart, on the contrary Nino himself could never do that - Nino only had a few friends in this school.
“Now you want to go or not?!” Nino grunted, and Ohno looked startled - like he didn’t remember Nino was there - then he bid his goodbye to Aiba and followed Nino’s hurried steps outside the building.
“Aiba-chan is friendly,” Ohno commented cheerfully when they went outside. The rush of fresh air poured into Nino’s lungs and he felt a little better. “He’s really funny.”
You like him? Nino wanted to ask, but he kept his mouth shut. There was no reason for him to ask that question anyway, and he didn’t want Ohno to get the wrong idea that he was being jealous or something. Because how could he be?
However, as if Ohno could read Nino’s mind, he added after a pause.
“I like him.”
And Nino didn’t answer, just like he didn’t answer Ohno’s other random conversations, but something in his chest twisted and he knew that was a little different with the usual hatred he always felt for Ohno.
