CHARACTER NAME: River Tam
FANDOM: Firefly
GRADE: Senior (She skipped a few grades)
MOST LIKELY TO: Become Insane Through Science
YEARBOOK QUOTE: Live simple. No Secrets.
PERSONALITY:
Her original canon personality is here. As she did not attend the Academy (as it's in the future) she was not experimented on and turned into an insane psychic ninja. Instead she attended school with Simon, skipping grades due to her gifted genius, took extra classes, attended extra curricular activities (such as dance and drama) and occasionally subs for math and physics.
River is a very mild tempered girl, though her genius and the fact that she sees others as dumb due to this makes her appear stuck up and she has few friends. She was bullied when she was younger but now, due to her 'weirdness' she is mostly left alone - the comments that she receives affect her now less and she brushes them off, hitting back with a witty (and highly intelligent) remark if she feels moved to.
River is a pleasant girl, thoughtful, sweet and has a smart sense of humour. From a child River has always been intelligent - whilst her brother was smart she was gifted, making him seem like the idiot child. River's gifts allowed her to do anything that she wanted, her mind being capable of accessing and doing anything which she tried. River is also very athletically skilled and is a talented dancer, capable of picking up a dance just by watching it for seconds. Her love of dancing also spread to drama, though she is never in the spotlight and doesn't act in the plays, instead helping behind the scenes.
River has a tendency to make 'odd' or inappropriate comments - the logic in them is sound to River but they don't entirely make sense - or at least the don't to others, due to her brain working at a faster speed and quickly jumping or skipping thought processes as she reaches an answer.. As a child River gave intellectual and logical answers to arguments or as solutions, something which she is still doing now though the meaning seems more confused and cryptic. River is deeply intuitive and combines both her intelligence with her feelings to allow things to follow in a logical path. River's cryptic speech is very meaningful and though it may not outwardly seem so, on the inside it is much deeper.
River is also very much a pacifist and doesn't even partake in verbal arguments, preferring to leave things be or discuss to resolve a conflict. She is very uninterested with a lot of student life, partially due to her lack of friends but also as she does not see the point of them. Her heightened intelligence has made her somewhat of an outcast, though her forward thinking views and disagreements on high school life have not helped with this matter either, one example being with Prom. She does not see its function and has often before gone before the Principle and tried to logically argue for its dismissal, along with other ideas and students.
AU HISTORY:
Original History THIRD-PERSON WRITING SAMPLE: ( A canon-River third person )
River sat up with a start. Her senses were ablaze, her mind working faster than it should have been possible. She didn't move, didn't look around. She was panicked, though this wasn't the most frightening. This wasn't Serenity, it wasn't any of the worlds that she knew of in the 'Verse. She'd been kidnapped but, oddly for being kidnapped, part of her felt safe. Or at least not in danger. This wasn't the Alliance and it certainly wasn't The Academy.
"Simon?" She called out to him, her voice filled with fear and confusion, her mind searching and finally moving herself from the bed, slowly and silently walking through the room. It was a rich world and there were people, lots of people. River could feel confusion between them, conflict. Some were saying that this was home, that everyone would be safe and the others...
Her hands moved quickly to her head, tightly pressed against her temples. There was so much. She slowed her walk until she stopped, noticing the light bouncing in from the window, reflecting into her face so bright that it was hard to see. Dropping one hand River lifted her head, her eyes falling onto the mirror in the corner of the room. She moved, saving herself from the blinding beams of the reflecting light, studying it deeply, intensely.
"Simon!" River smiled and turned, looking behind her at the comforting sight of her brother. Her face fell when she came about, the expected person behind her not being present. "Simon?" She turned back to the mirror, slowly walking towards until her hand pressed against it. She could see him but her own reflection was missing, as if he were trapped behind glass.
This wasn't right. He wasn't scared, wasn't trying to escape. But...
"No..." Panic rose in her voice, filling her words with enough emotion that she sounded close to tears.
"Simon." River was scared. Alone. Despite the voices, the presence on this planet, she was alone - she didn't have Simon.
