I'm pretty much brand new to the Death Note fandom, but wow, what a way to jump into it. This is pretty much one of the best fics I've ever read in any fandom, no lie.
Every word just FITS. Obviously a lot of thought and talent went into this and it basically ruined me for the night, thx.

OH MY GOD YOU DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH I NEEDED THIS STORY. HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS FROM THE FIRST.

I so badly want between/behind-the-scenes threadfic like this, Light and his mad perspectives, how Light's purpose is subverted by his fight with L, L and his existence as Light's foil, the "they weren't fucking but, oh, it was nearly the same thing, their obsession, wasn't it," the way L's death is orgasm-in-metaphor for Light, and the acknowledgement of how cold Light's world is without L, how destroying L was the moment Light began his own downfall, because no one could live up to L, surely. You got all of it in here, all of it. I'm DYING OF SQUEE.

There were so many lines that were either just so beautiful or gave me the YES YES THAT'S WHAT I WANTED ACKNOWLEDGED screamysquees, or both.

I got exactly that feeling, too, from watching that particular scene. In fact, if you will, speaking metaphorically, the scene struck me as a sort of rape? All that burgeoning triumph on Light's face, and a;ldfja I suppose I shouldn't be commenting on the show.

I suppose I'm interested in knowing that other people reacted to the scene (kinda) the way I did. ♥

For ages I've been trying to write something of Light's perspective during that scene that isn't just orgasm-as-metaphor but as actual orgasm, but it's soooo hard to work up the courage, fearing I can't do it justice. :D

That was beautiful. The transitioning was excellent, but the descriptions were freaking gorgeous. The way you described L's frail, bony body was so vivid and L's death and Light's feelings about him after he died were heartbreaking. This is a version of L/Light longing I can really buy, just fabulously done.

I do like the idea of Light/L, but I don't really think canon leaves the room for it to actually exist. So in that sense it's as much about what didn't happen as what did.
