Artist names and polls.

Hmm... seems Last.fm is finally letting us vote on Artist names. So, everyone should go here and vote for 동방신기. Likewise, go here and vote for This is a valid artist!I'd like to see Dong Bang Shin Ki/동방신기 win overall because they are a Korean group who first and foremost had a home in Korea. I like that they have become popular all over Asia, but ( Read more... )

For the first part I put all, but I'm pretty indifferent to the Chinese versions of their songs.

That said, for the second part I put the second option, not because of the THSK part but for the Chinese characters. I usually type them out DBSK, but use 東方神起 for my last.fm, the former because it's easier and the latter because it's more "general Asian". By that I mean that even though the characters are Chinese, Japanese and Korean writing sometimes use Kanji/Hanja, so this way I can tag both their Japanese and their Korean music using the same artist name.

Still, I don't care what last.fm chooses as long as it merges all the different DBSK pages into one because hello? They're all one artist.

Yeah, last.fm is pretty annoying right now. I guess they can't control EVERY name an artist goes by, but it would be better if they all just merged into one.

Thanks for the detailed answer. <3

I think I read in their FAQ that something about the system they're using makes it difficult to merge artist pages but with this new voting thing, hopefully they're working on it.

No problem, it was probably 100 times more detailed than you were looking for but I'm kind of anal about this stuff. XD

No no. I really liked the long detailed answer. It's interesting to see how other people see it. :)

I refer to them as 東方神起 simply because, as the previous commenter said, its the more general Asian name. They've been using it even in Korea so yup. Acronym wise, I prefer TVXQ, since its the one they use.

For the name, vocally I tend to say Tohoshinki, but thats because my boyfriend is Japanese and its easiest for both of us to say. But I do type it 東方神起 as well. :3

I think of TVXQ as their international name to be honest and while I do use DBSK mostly, sometimes I really like to say TVXQ.

I like them singing either language. They have good songs regardless, but lately I'm itching for another Korean album. I just think that because they are Koreans, they should maintain most of a career in Korean. But their Japanese counterpart is equally amazing and I'm so proud of them for having such international success. XD

Gosh, last year was so sad in Korea because the boys were just not active enough. I think it is time for them to go home. No matter the popularity overseas or how much fun they have learning new things, it's nice to be able to go home and have popularity in your own country. That's what I think anyway.

I'm pretty picky about this. When I listen to their Japanese music, I tag it all as 東方神起. When I listen to their Korean music, I tag it all as 동방신기. I just feel like the Japanese and Korean music are two completely different things and should be tagged accordingly. >_>; So I use both tags on last.fm.

Ah, I knew there were people who did that. For me, I see them as the same people/group no matter what, but I can see how you see them separately.
