Note: Albert is pronounced in this the French way, which sounds like Albear.

"Arthur. Arthur Darling. Hey. Arthur. Wake up."

Arthur opened his eyes slowly. He glanced at the clock.

"It's too early. Go away."

"Good to see domestic life treating you well," Eames teased and poked Arthur's cheek.

"Stop it...You said you would take care of the kids this morning," he muttered. "You wore me out last night. Come on..." He batted at Eames' offending hand.

"I know, love," Eames whispered and kissed Arthur's temple. "But it's nearly ten and you're going to be tired and cranky for the rest of the day."

"Just a big longer. I'm really tired," Arthur whispered and pulled the blanket over his head. Eames watched his husband disappear into the mountain of cloth and sighed.

"Come on, Arthur."

"Go away! This was the deal!" Arthur snapped angrily and swung his leg at Eames.

Eames jerked off the bed the stared down at Arthur. Well it was time to unleash the stampede. He went outside where their two children were standing and the third sat sucking her thumb.

"Daddy's still sleeping," Eames informed them.

The eldest sighed loudly in a very Arthuresque fashion and Eames covered his chuckle by picking up the baby. She sucked her thumb at him, smiling around it. Eames popped her thumb out and received a toothless grin.

"How's my diaper butt?" he teased and patted her padded behind. "Dry. I always like that." He bounced her and she replied with gibberish and 'Da' then laughed despite not knowing why he was so pleased with her.

"Come on, Dad. It's nearly ten," the eldest and pretty boy with Eames' lips and Arthur's dark hair glowered impatiently. Eames still found himself breathless remembering how difficult it had been to suddenly be a father. No amount of planning and excitement and fears could have prepared him for this. Any of this. Everything his little children did simultaneously delighted and panicked him that he forgot how to breathe.

"Well how about you guys just go in there then and wake him up?" Eames offered. The two year old grinned with a wide smile and dimples.

"Daddy~! Burf-"

Eames put his finger over his lips.

"Shhh. You have to tell him once you wake him up." Albert put his finger up and shhhed then laughed, pleased with himself. The six year old looked less than pleased.

"But I thought Daddy said NOT to wake him up when he's sleeping unless it's an emergency."

"Well I'm giving you permission. Believe me. Daddy will like it."

Even at six, Edwin looked skeptical. He glanced down at his outfit and sighed. Eames wanted to laugh at the ridiculously exaggerated sound.

"Does that mean after we wake him up we can go change and have our snacks?"

"Naturally," Eames replied formally. Edwin always liked being treated like he was one of the adults of the family. Arthur wasn't pleased with the personality trait but Eames indulged him. He knew it was tough for the boy to suddenly go from being the center of attention to...well, not. He sometimes regretted putting their little boy in such a position but then he looked at Albert and Eleanor and couldn't help it. Edwin would just have to put up with it.

"Ok. Go in there and wish Daddy Happy Birthday. Make sure you show him your little outfits," Eames insisted and handed Eleanor to Edwin. The young boy held his sister carefully and smiled nervously at her. She grinned and tugged at his hair playfully. Eames could hear 'In' occasionally in her gibbering mumbles and smiled.

"You know Daddy's going to be upset," Edwin informed him again.

"Go on."

Albert didn't have to be told twice. The little blond boy rushed into the master bedroom with an energy that constantly put everyone in the household to tears from sheer exhaustion.

"Daddy! Daddy! Up! Up! Get up!" Albert yelled smacking the Arthur lump with both hands, fingers spread wide. Eames grimaced and wondered if he should intervene. "Up, Daddy! Get up! Up!"

"What? Why-Albert, don't hit me!" Arthur muttered groggily and sat up. He reached down and pulled the little blond into his lap, wrapping his hands into Albert's to stop him from smacking him. Albert's bright eyes and chubby face looked up to him.

"Burthdey! Daddy~! Burthdey!" Albert exclaimed then kept talking to Arthur but only about half the words were real and complete sentences. The rest were probably for his own benefit to hear the sounds.

"What's going on?" Arthur asked, his thumbs rubbing the back of Albert's pudgy hands as they tried to lift Arthur's up and down energetically. He kept talking but not for anyone's benefit. Edwin plopped Eleanor on the bed and she crawled and shuffled up toward Arthur's face. Happy to be released, Albert started rolling around beside Arthur still talking to no one in particular. Arthur took his daughter and held her to his chest sleepily and looked to Edwin knowing he might get a response from the only other sane person in the household.

"Happy Birthday, Daddy."

"Thank you, love." He kissed Edwin's forehead and the boy crawled up beside Arthur and curled into his side, careful to avoid his obnoxious brother's squirming. Arthur watched him then his other children then back to Eames.

"That was a dirty move," he told Eames, still sleepy eyed and messed haired. Eames just grinned from the doorframe.

"Dad made us do it," Edwin stated, quick to give up his father. Eames smiled proudly.

"Well let me get dressed and I'll make you guys..." Arthur trailed off and looked at the clock. "A snack." Edwin smiled and both of his parents watched him affectionately before the troublemaker interrupted.

"SNACKS! Snacks!" Albert screamed and started smacking his hands down again.

"Albert, stop that!" Arthur scolded and tried to protect Eleanor from being hit. Eames walked in and picked him up. Albert took this as an excuse to use his father as his jungle gym. "You didn't give him sugar, did you?" Arthur asked incredulously.

"Of course not. That's all genes."

"Naturally," Arthur muttered still half asleep. Early birthday gift...what bullshit. Eames knew more how to wear him out for his birthdays more than anything else. Arthur rubbed his face trying to will himself from exhaustion.

"Daddy," Edwin muttered and tugged at Arthur's pajama sleeve. Arthur looked at him.

"Hm, love?" Edwin turned and lay on his back and frowned. He didn't say anything and stared at Arthur. "What's wrong..." Arthur reached forward to push his hair back then paused. His eyes narrowed.

"What are you wearing?"

"Dad said it was for your birthday." Edwin looked at Eames then grinned cunningly when Arthur also turned and glared. Eames grinned. The little brat.

Arthur looked at his baby in his lap then to his two year old in Eames' arms. They were all dressed in bright colors matched with their complementary shade and paisley designed. Arthur rubbed his eyes and groaned.

"What are you dressing my children in?"

"I saw them and couldn't help myself." Eames laughed at the look on Arthur's face.

"I bet you couldn't help yourself..." Arthur trailed off. He looked at Edwin, who looked pleased at turning in his father, and to Eleanor and Albert. "Oh these clothes look awful," he lamented. Edwin was quickly sitting up.

"Does that mean we can change now?" he asked already pulling off his jacket. Arthur and Eames laughed. Arthur looked at Eames.

"You're horrible," he muttered then laughed against Eleanor's still thin light brown hair. He kissed the crown of her head as he held her. He stole a glance at Eames and shook his head in amusement. Eames put Albert down and let the boy run around the room to let out some energy.

Eames leaned in.

"My normal kids like it," Eames whispered and Arthur laughed before they both looked at Edwin, who despite all his airs, was already almost down to his underwear. "Sure you didn't just make that one on your own?" Arthur laughed.

"I would go crazy without him," Arthur retorted and kissed Eames on the lips.

"You would go crazy without me," Eames corrected, his hand sneaking behind Arthur's neck and playing with the hair at the nape of his neck.

"I would. I really would." They kissed again then Eames took Eleanor from Arthur's arms.

"Get dressed. I have a dream birthday morning planned for you." Eames grinned. "Well as dreamful as it could be with these rascals around." Arthur laughed and ran his hand through his hair then rubbed his still sleepy eyes.

"Ok. Now get my children out of these awful clothes and burn them." That caught Edwin's attention quickly and Arthur knew there was no way he was purely his son. "I want to see these two," he motioned to Edwin and Albert, "in the suits I had made and her in the dress you got in Paris last week."

"I don't know why. They're just going to ruin them."

"Will not!" Edwin protested. Arthur pushed Edwin close and kissed him on the forehead.

"Of course you wouldn't. He meant the babies," Arthur assured him. Edwin clung to Arthur. Arthur brushed his hair back and held him close. Sometimes Arthur feared Edwin was too sensitive. That one day he was going to get hurt badly and never be the same. Arthur's grip grew tighter at the thought. He wished he could protect him from that day. He kissed Edwin's forehead again.

"Ok," Arthur stated and pushed Edwin toward Eames. "Get changed and help your father change you guys..." Arthur eyed Eames. "And maybe himself." Eames laughed.

"I heard that!"

"That was the plan." Eames didn't say anything before headed out but Arthur could see the affection and love in his gaze and on his face. Albert clung to Eames' leg laughing as Eames walked down the hall and dragged the boy behind him. Arthur wanted to tell Albert to walk but secretly hoped the shirt ripped or was destroyed this way. Edwin bounced off the bed and chased after Eames with quick little legs. Arthur sighed and relished in the brief alone time.

Then there was a crash and Arthur groaned.

"Daddy!" Edwin called.

"I'm coming!"
