Because I was asked to, essaying: relationships/sexuality

Jan 18, 2010 22:28

I told someone I would write a not-essay about Rictor's sexuality and failtastic relationship history because apparently I was on crack. I am so not drunk enough for this. Also, none of this will ever come up in camp so I do wonder why I bothered. This contains spoilers as far as X-Factor #200 and the Nation X: X-Factor one shot.

When you spend much of the 90s being plotted by Rob Liefeld and Jeph Loeb your character history is bound to be ultra confusing. It doesn't make any more sense when you're reading much of the canon, seriously. Though to be fair I wrote most of the Rictor/Shatterstar part during the holidays while I was drinking heavily.

I'd ask which parts were confusing so I could make stuff clearer but I'm guessing the confusing part is... almost all of it.

Gee, I can see how people could have missed this incredibly subtle hint that Shatty was gay for Rictor... if they were blind. Also, wow, I forgot how hideous that art was.

Well, see, clearly what happened here is they saw the art, went blind, and missed the gay.

The saddest thing is that that's not anywhere near the worst art X-Force got.

There was not actually any sleeping with your brother. Though really that wouldn't be the worst decision Rictor ever made.

If it happened in an issue I'd so buy the issue tbh. ( Dear Marvel, please draw Quicksilver and Rictor banging. I am sure people would buy it. Love, me. ) You could even put it on his resume :|a . . . maybe. . .

If they did that I would buy like five copies of that issue, even though comics cost like $6 here. Quicksilver is a billion times hotter than 100% of the dudes Rictor has made sex with.

Now, the character histories in X-Factor #200 claim that they hooked up early in their acquaintance, not long after Rictor kissed Tabitha and got brutally rebuffed. This makes no sense at all, given conversations they have later than this point.

I think it's just REALLY BADLY phrased, or something. Like, it should say that they would EVENTUALLY hook up later down the line, as opposed to right after his fail!attempts at hitting on Tabby.

Also, O RICTOR. Your romantic life, it is such epic fail.

I should hope so because hooking up right after that fail would make NEGATIVE SENSE. Especially given he encourages Feral to hit on Shatterstar in that issue and it's way before the issue where Rictor has to ask whether Shatterstar even has a penis.

It is like endless fail. Usually pretty hilarious and entertaining fail, but still.

Yeah, I really can't see anything happening before he comes back from Mexico. So I have to think it was just really awkward phrasing and a bad choice of where to mention their eventual hookup.

Rictor = king of NOT WINNING AT LIFE?

On the bright side, he's managed to avoid getting kidnapped lately?

Yeah, neither can I. It just makes most sense then.

No one else would even take a chance at that crown. XD

On the bright side, he's managed to avoid getting kidnapped lately? It's only a matter of time. The solicit for #204 has the 'it's a trap!' thing going in spades, anyway.
