Harry meets Draco pan_alchemist November 29 2006, 17:28:11 UTC
Harry shows a lot of character here. It would have been so easy to give in to peer pressure and agree that Hagrid was not worth knowing. But Harry doesn't. He stands his ground and says, "I think he's brilliant."

I also appreciated that it was mentioned that Harry was "strongly reminded of Dudley."

The wand outside Ollivanders pan_alchemist November 29 2006, 17:48:05 UTC
I just thought I would say this, as it is better to 'leave no stone unturned'.

A lot of people think that the wand outside Ollivanders is a Horcrux.

Personally, I am not convinced. I can't see Voldemort putting a fragment of his soul out on display where it isn't likely to be well guarded.

Feel free to disagree though.

On sensing magic pan_alchemist November 29 2006, 17:51:34 UTC
When Harry walks into Ollivanders, the back of his neck prickles.

Something similar happens when he walks into the cave with Dumbledore.

I am tempted to say that this is Harry sensing surrounding magic. It could, after all, come in handy during the hunt for the Horcruxes.

This information comes from Jo's site:

"European tradition has it that the holly tree (the name comes from 'holy') repels evil, while yew, which can achieve longevity (there are British yew trees over two thousand years old), can symbolise both death and resurrection; the sap is also poisonous."

Other than that, I just want to note that it is stated that Lily's wand is good for Charms (we know she was apparently gifted at potions, according to Slughorn) and that James's wand was good for Transfiguration.

Other than that, the idea that you will never get as good results with another wizards wand, seems to rule out the idea of either Harry or Voldemort trading theirs in.

On the 'wand chosing the wizard'.
There are 2 powerful wands. Could this be to create a balance? 1 good, 1 bad owner... But this would imply destiny...

Were Harry's and Voldemort's wands made at the same time?
