Friday Night

Friday Night I'm strongly thinking about getting roaring drunk.  I'm lazy enough that I don't want to do any planning beyond assembling a crew.  So, would anyone be interested in such an outing?  Preferably in Irvine unless you will also be providing me with a comfortable place to crash the night.

if it's at a place, i.e. we buy alcohol and take it back somewhere, then sure. and i'm in Huntington these days with crashing couches -- it could happen here.

might be nice to hang out again

You have some sort of gaming system, right? ;-P There's definite potential there, although it'd be nice if we could somehow involve other parties as well.

Other parties coming over and hanging out/drinking would be excellent, absolutely. I don't mind as many as 20 people here, especially on a weekend. And there's a bar literally in walking distance (I walked home from it pretty drunk 2 weeks ago when I had an early work meeting).

Unfortunately, we do not! have a gaming system here. We keep talking about it and can't decide whether to get a Wii or a 360, whether we want to make someone buy it alone or go 3-way for it, etc.

Bah.

hmm, I don't know who I can get down here who wouldn't also want to crash. Maybe Vince? Only person I know you still know I think.

I'm highly highly leary of taking stuff apart but I could bring my xbox and rock band potentially.

Wait...is it even possible to get drunk in Irvine? I thought it was a dry county?

It's quasi-dry. There are several Bev-mo type places, an assortment of "restaurants" that specialize in alcohol like Dave and Busters and The Yard House, and two ancient places that rest on some sort of alcoholic hollowed ground. Supposedly (although I've never been or seen it nor do I even know where it is) there is a liquor store buried in a corner somewhere in town. There is also a straight up open till 2:00 am bar in town (note the singular for a town of 200k people). It should be noted that this bar is not visible from any major street (prominently visible off the 5 freeway though) and is located in the oldest commercial zoning in the city.* The bar's liquor license might very well predate the city's incorporation.

*I'm struggling to find a non-awkward way to say "back when the town was orange groves and more orange groves along with the occasional school, the only stores in town were a mini-mart and a knolwoods which sat back to back. Behind them you'll find the bar."

Reading the definition of dry county, Irvine is not a dry county. They just reject the liquor license applications of anyone trying to open up a bar or a liquor store. Unless of course the liquor store is upscale and corporate in which case it's totally ok.
